A Florida K-9 caught an accused car thief in its jaws of justice last month during a foot chase that ended with the suspect begging deputies for help, according to bodycam video released Friday.

LOL!! It bit him in the butt!!!!! Oh, man that had to have been so painful.
Since Police dogs are considered officers, I wonder can you sue successfully sue them for excessive force if you are bitten ?
It could have been worse, he could have been bitten in the balls, that would have been painful.

I still like the story of the guy that picked up on the handler issuing the dog commands in German and thinking that the command for “bite and hold “ was actually the dogs name and saying it over and over might calm the dog down….

Mali-gators will rip-your-balls-off, and they have! They’re like bears. You can’t out-run them and you can’t out-climb them. And, you can hear the dog barking long before the handler sics him on you, so why run?
That man has bigger problems than a dog biting his ass. He has a drug addiction problem if ever I have seen a man with one.
K-9 officers will tell you dogs are better than a gun sometimes, dogs go around corners, are faster than criminals, and the farther you run the longer it takes the officer to catchup, (the more chewing time the dog has) before they are told to stand down. Halt or I’ll shoot may not work sometimes, when halt or I’ll turn the dog loose does. Just saying. 😎

Our K-9 unit had a monster (large & attitude) Rotty. If he was on scene, we usually sent a medical unit because if he got “sent” after a suspect, they were going to get bitten ... that dog loved his job.
I’ve known a few K-9 units like that. Belgian Malinois were one group’s preferred animal and those dogs are NO-SH!T killers when they’re set on a job.
Well what would happen if police officers went around biting people.
A home owner, named John, heard noise on his roof and discovered a gorilla, there, recently escaped from the zoo.
Looking, in the phone book, under “Gorilla Removal Services”, the first entry was “Al’s Gorilla Removal”.
John called and within the hour a white van, with a ladder strapped to the roof, pulled up.
Out stepped Al, with a sawed off 12 gauge, in his right hand and in his left, attached to a leash, was a large, vicious pit bull.
Striding up to John, Al handed him the leash and the shotgun and started unstrapping the ladder.
John queried Al “How do you expect to do this?”
Al replied “I’ll climb the ladder, onto the roof.
Wrestle the gorilla, throw him to the ground.
You release the dog and he will grab the gorilla by the balls and hold him, until I can climb down, tie him up and throw him in the van.”
“What’s the shotgun for? asked John.
Al replied “If the gorilla manages to throw me off the roof, shoot the dog.”
WORTHLESS LOSER.
Our department had to re-train the K9 who was very smart. He would hold the perp at bay unless the perp moved. The dog would jump at the perp and make him move and then bite him.
I’m glad that the thief was caught. Dogs are great for sniffing out drugs and other items, too. But I disagree with the use of dogs to physically arrest offenders.

Depends on the seriousness of the offense and the threat of bodily harm to police officers or others. Dogs used to defend law-abiding citizens and apprehend those who threaten to harm or kill them are rightfully deemed to be a blessing in any truly civilized society.

An interesting question.
“Global News reports the Ontario Provincial Police have 27 police dogs, but only one of those is female. At the same time, female dogs make up only 15% of the current working dogs in Alberta, Canada. The trend isn’t surprising. In Canada and the United States, the majority of dogs working for police are male. It’s not something the average person would notice, but the reasoning behind it tells us a lot about how female and male dogs are different.”
