A “special master” would review documents and materials to determine which are protected by attorney-client privilege and executive privilege, barring the Department of Justice (DOJ) from using them.
The decision by Judge Aileen M. Cannon, a Trump appointee, comes less than one week after Trump’s legal team filed a motion seeking an independent review of the seized documents. Trump’s motion filed Monday argued the FBI raid was a political hit job against him by President Joe Biden’s DOJ.
“Law enforcement is a shield that protects Americans. It cannot be used as a weapon for political purposes,” Trump’s motion said. “Therefore, we seek judicial assistance in the aftermath of an unprecedented and unnecessary raid on President Trump’s home at Mar-a-Lago, in Palm Beach, Florida.”

Trump’s Motion for Judicial Oversight And Additional Relief requests the court appoint a Special Master, prohibit the FBI from further review of the seized documents until the Special Master is appointed, order the government to release a more detailed property receipt, and return any item seized that was not within the search warrant’s scope.
Judge Cannon’s decision on Saturday was based on Trump’s submissions and “the exceptional circumstances presented,” Fox News reported.
“Pursuant to Rule 53(b)(1) of the Federal Rules of Civil Procedure and the Court’s inherent authority, and without prejudice to the parties’ objections, the Court hereby provides notice of its preliminary intent to appoint a special master in this case,” Cannon wrote in a filing.

She’s an honest judge so I suspect she’ll take care to appoint an honest master. I’m sure the DOJ leftist activists will do everything they can to attempt to advance a candidate that will be “friendly” to them but I don’t think this judge will allow that to succeed.
Meanwhile the FBI has weeks to destroy papers. I hope Trump has copies of everything.
What good does this do since the government has already had the documents for several weeks? Heck, Trump’s idiot lawyers didn’t even file any actions for days and weeks as well. Caught like deer in headlights, unprepared to be attorneys to represent Trump.
The truth is, the government agents out to get Trump will have “SEEN” anything and everything by now. Being forced to give some papers back means.. NOTHING.
The real play here is to prove they SAW something they were not supposed to see (the government), not get it back. Once Trump’s team can prove the government SAW something they shouldn’t have the entire case will have to be dismissed, because of the principle that “if the evidential “tree” is tainted, so is its “fruit.”
I would argue they did that ONE PURPOSE, to give the government the time to see something they shouldn’t have.

But Trump’s lawyers should have filed an emergency motion for a Special Master that night! With sequestering of all docs immediately.

Now the FIB will leak, and leak,... everyone’s got copies there by now.
The FIB is the Gestapo.
The fact that the FBI initiated that huge raid that took so long means Trump is in possession of documents that the FBI doesn’t want him to have. In other words, Trump holds the high hand.
That doesn't mean anything is going to come of it.

The stakes are so great that they will do anything to prevent an impartial investigator from being involved.
We are witness to a fight to the death (politically and financially for some, and maybe literally for a few).
That is assuming she does not select Bill Barr or a clone.

I can’t wait to see the residents’ faces when not far from now they will find that their thermostats don’t work above a certain number in the winter and below a certain number in the summer.

I suspect that it took so long for two reasons.
#1 they were trying to figure out how to bug the place.
#2 The could not find the documents they were looking for.
Or maybe not all of them.
