Liz Cheney in 2024? Deep skepticism emerges in key states

As the sun set in Wyoming, U.S. Rep. Liz Cheney described her blowout loss as the beginning of a more consequential step in her political career. She summoned Abraham Lincoln, who lost elections for the House and Senate and still went on to become one of the nation's most accomplished presidents.

But in the days since, would-be supporters in key states have openly expressed skepticism about a Cheney presidential run, even one solely designed to block Donald Trump's return to the White House.

In fact, Republican voters and local officials in three of the states that matter most in presidential politics — Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina — believe the soon-to-be-unemployed congresswoman has little path to relevancy in a 2024 presidential primary, never mind a path to victory. Some sympathizers fear she would actually help Trump if she runs.

“Not one person is talking about Liz Cheney,” Bartlett said. “I don’t think she knows what she’s doing."

Nationally, around 7 in 10 Republicans continue to support Trump. That number may have jumped in the days after the FBI executed a search warrant at his Florida estate, though critics note that Trump's multiple legal entanglements could ultimately damage his standing. Cheney, meanwhile, is lumped near the bottom with Pompeo and Haley, among others, in early public polling.

Voters tend to agree with the political professionals.

Claire Potter wore a Cheney T-shirt on a recent trip to Conway, New Hampshire, to “express my admiration as a Democrat” for the position she has taken against Trump. Potter, a history professor at The New School in New York, also donated $25 to the Cheney campaign.

Just don't expect her to vote for Cheney in 2024.

“I don’t hope that she runs for president," Potter said.

Well, in all fairness, after the Let’s Go Brandon Banana Republic disaster, Cheney is the most “wildly popular” RAT on the block

Nearly her entire constituency told her that her actions, positions, and ethics are unacceptable and she has the guile to instead compare herself to Lincoln and play the martyr. She’s got as much chance of getting elected president as I do.

Lizard: “You should have seen the positive reaction I got from the audience when I said I would run for President. They all started yelling ‘Do!’ ‘Dooooooo!’ The whole audience was Do-ing. They love me. They really do.”

“She has little path to relevancy.” Yup. That’s her superpower.

“Around 7 in 10 Republicans still support Trump.” Republicans who support something like Ms Liz are not Republicans. They don’t have to support Trump, I guess, but they should at least support a non-RINO. You would think that to be a no-brainer.

Hey, uh, whosoever may read this post - Governor Desantis had to cancel a fundraiser and the reason given was an “unforeseen tragedy.” I tried to research this but just found a bunch of dumb liberals wishing death on him.

Does anybody know what happened?

If no one is talking about the bitch, then why write an article about her? What is the media avoiding by writing useless drivel about Cheney?

It's not so much "deep skepticism."

It's more like "hysterical laughter."

You’re 100% right but she’s not trying to be elected. If she was elected, she would probably be stunned. She’s trying to GET INSANELY RICH.

Did you ever see a movie called “The Producers”....? Mel Brooks movie? These guys bilk their financiers by producing a play they KNOW will flop, expecting to get rich “because no one will audit the books of a play that has presumably lost money.”

Destroy the GOP for fun and profit. Ms Liz will start getting invitations to visit Mexico and Ukraine any day now, if she hasn’t already.

She's following Beto's playbook.

We have our own stooge here in Florida, by the name of Charlie Crist. He's going to be trying again to be governor. He's doomed!

Cheney's voter registration is in Jackson Hole. That city is an aberration, and TOTALLY unrepresentative of the people of the Intermountain West and the High Plains.

Cheney's home is in McLean, Virginia, perhaps the richest zip code in America. Totally unrepresentative the people she was sworn to serve, unrepresentative of 99% of Americans.

If Trump is the nominee, she will run as an independent to insure Trump is not elected. Guaranteed.
