Scoop: McCarthy's "Commitment to America" rollout
AXIOS ^ | 9/6/2022 | Andrew Solender

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) will formally unveil a four-part "Commitment to America" in Pittsburgh on Sept. 19 to tell voters why they should vote for Republicans — not just against Democrats — in November, Axios has learned.

Why it matters: Remember the GOP's "Contract with America" in 1994? It made promises on cutting taxes and government and other conservative ideals and was released six weeks before President Clinton's first midterms. Republicans enjoyed massive wins that year and flipped control of the House and Senate.

What we're hearing: This document will be much smaller. It aims to give Republicans a unified message to run on in the final stretch before November, saying they are committed to:

I think this is a good idea, need to get voters focused on the major issues and the Democrat failures.

The Dems have been controlling the message and the GOP needs a simple and concise focus and they need to be united in message.

Contract with America" in 1994

And here comes Kevin McCarthy rocketing the GOP back 30 years. Who thought of this, Karl Rove?

The GOP is a disaster when it comes to messaging. Look at the difference between them and the Dems who with the help of the media parrot the same talking points and essentially control the national message. The GOP are basically quiet quitters, enjoying their lavish royal accoutrements and seldom unified with a message even though it's been presented on a Silver platter. They need this, they are awful.

This guy IS trash. The RINOs are squirming to stay in control.

Look for the only anti-Democrat message to come from the RINOs and the Democrat media will gleefully carry it.

LOL, I had a feeling this post would turn in to a bash McCarthy thread, as he deserves. However, it's time they got focused, the economy, inflation, crime, border are all top issues.

This isn’t 1994 and McCarthy ain’t Newt Gingrich.

Weak, weak, weak, weak! This summary is thin gruel. They need to hire Victor Davis Hanson to advise them. For months he's been prescribing solid, no-nonsense policy proposals that would win 40 to 50 seats.
"An economy that is strong": This section specifically focuses on inflation, high gas prices, supply chain issues and competition with China. McCarthy advises members to pledge to "put an end to 'Build Back Better' and eliminate wasteful government spending."

"A nation that is safe": With a focus on crime and immigration, Republicans vow to "secure the Southern border," "reduce crime and stop Fentanyl" and "defend our national security."

"A future that is free": Section headers include "make sure every kid in every neighborhood can succeed," "better care and improved health outcomes for all Americans" and "confront Big Tech and advance free speech."

"A government that is accountable": The final section emphasizes the extent of the oversight efforts Republicans are promising next year if they take back the majority, including a pledge to "ensure safe and fair elections."

This really galls me: "...eliminate wasteful government spending"

Give me a break! We've been hearing that for 50 or 60 years and it never happens because all these people in Congress know how to do is spend OPM. How about "Reduce government size by two-thirds and get back to a Republic bound by its Constitution"?

They need Gingrich and Hanson to put something solid together.

Where is the Culture and Political War? Where is push-back against trannies, CRT, men disguised as women playing women's sports, the out-sized homo lobby, BLM, antifa, and the marxist take-over of the USA?

It better have a lot to do with stopping the Great Re-set & rolling back government. Otherwise, we’re still screwed, even with R’s in office.

And how does this compare to Senator Rick Scott’s plan? Where are the differences? Is McCarthy pushing RINO and GOPe? Who’s pushing Trump and traditional Tea Party agenda?
