Tyson Foods Inc. became the latest large company to announce its departure from Chicago, continuing a trend in the city that many have argued is the result of the city's skyrocketing rates of crime and threatens to do harm to its most vulnerable populations.
"You're talking about a situation where you have a hollowed out economy, where you have businesses leaving, there are no jobs," Heritage Foundation senior research fellow in the Center for Health and Welfare Policy Robert Moffit told Fox News Digital last month. "And the people who are desperately hurt by this are mostly low income and black and minority residents who suffer the most from this high crime."
Moffit's comments came after McDonald's CEO Chris Kempczinski took aim at Chicago in a mid-September speech, arguing that the city's rising crime rates have made it increasingly difficult for companies to operate or find employees.
"We have violent crime that's happening in our restaurants ... we're seeing homelessness issues in our restaurants. We're having drug overdoses that are happening in our restaurants,"" Kempczinski said at the time. "So we see in our restaurants, every single day, what's happening in society at large."

According to polling for the coming General Election, if you are a Democrat, you view Abortion, Climate Change and the environment as you big issues in deciding who you will vote for. If you are a Republican your issues are Crime, the economy and illegal immigration.
Where it gets really interesting, is if you ask a Democrat if there is a crime problem, the say no. They may say there is a police problem in dealing with crime or a homeless problem.
My personal observation is that there is a huge gang drug problem that is the cause of most of the violent crime and the way to stop that violence is to get the police to arrest and the justice system to try, convict, and put these gang members in jail for a long, long time.
The liberal's I talk to in the Soviet of Washington say it is a societal problem based on institutional racism. Society has failed to educate, find good paying jobs, and has used the police as a tool to place oppressed people of color into jails. They are fighting to reduce the size of the police force and keep them from arresting as many people as possible. Then they want those arrested to not have to post bail, even for violent felony charges. They want to decriminalize most drug crimes. They want people charged with crimes to be diverted into community court programs that don't require jail time and finally they want to close as many jails as possible and pardon or release as many from “correction centers” as possible.
What is happening in Chicago is not unique. It can be found in most large Democratic Party controlled cities. Most large cities are at a breaking point, where business leaders have given up on trying to get liberal democratic politicians to at least provide a basic level of law and order. That is why large businesses are leaving Chicago.
Oh, and tax policy is another factor. Why should a business pay high taxes and its executives pay high “income” or “stock transaction” taxes, when the money is not even used to provide public safety?
Like all pendulums, this one will swing back to over-correct the lawlessness. When that happens the correction centers will become prisons, the gangs will be dealt with harshly and brutally, the mentally ill homeless will be institutionalized, the addicted homeless will be jailed to dry out, and the rest of the homeless will be treated as vagrants and made to leave or at least hide in areas they aren't seen.
That won't be “better” but it will be a “correction from the situation now.
This also affects workers in SD. Guess why Tyson would consolidate all corporate offices a few miles from Walmart HQ.
The article didn’t mention where Tyson is going. 😠
> As these companies depart, jobs for the middle class go with them. <
Yep. And there is certainly a multiplier effect as well. Those middle class folks bought middle class things (cars, furniture, restaurant meals, etc.). Jobs in those industries will go as well.
I live in the rust belt. It was estimated that every steel mill job supported as many as five ancillary jobs. Well, the mills are gone now. And so are those ancillary jobs.
Last decent person leaving Chicago lock the big gate behind you so no one else can leave.
I see what you did there...
“...the gangs will be dealt with harshly and brutally, the mentally ill homeless will be institutionalized, the addicted homeless will be jailed to dry out, and the rest of the homeless will be treated as vagrants...”
Of course he says this like it’s extremism.
wtf racists! I vacation in equatorial New Guinea. Its near Gabon you ignorant clowns!

That’s why I’ve been to Holland, Luxembourg, Belgium, Hawaii, and Iceland.
So What!, I don’t see what the big deal is, this is the Demonrat Utopia, they voted for, Enjoy It, Embrace It, YOU OWN IT!!!
Chicago must love high crime and poverty. They vote for the same rotten types every cycle.
No disagreement from me. What you describe sounds right on the money and also the destruction of the American dream in these blue states of misery and poverty.
The upper class doesn’t have it so great either. They have to constantly be worried about being attacked, killed, or just robbed by any of the poverty stricken street drug filled lower class. Many who no longer think in a human way; more base animal than human.
Moral of the story is leftism ruins everything it touches and no one is immune.
“The article didn’t mention where Tyson is going.”
Lols ... They are going as far away from Chicongo as they can get. Texas, Florida, North Carolina? What Tyson is not saying, is how many of their office workers have been attacked, raped and assaulted. Tyson is done with this Beelzebub loser town.
“Info is Heritage opinion not sourced from Tyson. HQ moves are not made for the reasons cites, C- level employees are not concerned about crime.”
You state a wholly speculative personal opinion as though it were fact. It’s not even a moderately well thought out opinion but rather a dubious assertion totally ungrounded in reality.
Don’t give up your day job.
Why is any sane person, business, organization in Chicongo?
In 1964-66 I did a very thorough, detailed study of manufacturing and manufacturing jobs in the job heavy West corridor along the C&NW tracks.
Hands down, harrassment by city inspectors was the #1 reas
on they left, many for Elk Grove Village area. Building Inspectors, Zoning Inspectors, Health Inspectors, License inspectors. You name it, they were there to make productivity impossible.
I did a statewide, but less rigourous, survey in the 1970s. They were no longer fleeing to Elk Grove Village, they were fleeing to Asia. “Republican” Ogilvie’s Pin Stripe Patronage was taking the Chicago experience statewide.
Crime was the same then, as now. 7 murders by the gang on my block alone. Murders in the factory area 3 blocks south of me. Political Assassinations of Barreto and others who might emerge to challenge the machine.
I left in 2013. Is it any different now than in 1960s, 1970s or 2010’s?
OUTLAW gated communities AND high walls around mansions (like Nancy Pelosi, George Soros, Bill Gates and John Kerry have)- and these corrupt white liberal 'elites' will start caring about crime.
