Voters may care more about the cost of French fries than January 6 panel’s compelling evidence
CNN ^ | October 13, 2022 | Stephen Collinson

The House select committee investigating the US Capitol insurrection long ago dropped the notion of being a narrowly focused quest for the facts as members use their probe to try to defend democracy in its intensifying struggle with Donald Trump.

The panel returns to the public eye Thursday after its late-summer break with a televised hearing that sources tell CNN will serve as a pre-midterms warning that the ex-President is a clear and present danger to free elections.

But are the American people listening? And do the committee’s efforts to undermine Trump’s cadre of election denier candidates in 2022 and vow to ensure he never again tastes presidential power have any chance of success?

Polls repeatedly show that voters see the economy – a far more visceral issue in daily life than the threat to American democracy – as their top concern. Their anxiety was explained by new data Wednesday from the Producer Price Index, a key measure of inflation showing the price of goods and services rose at an annual pace of 8.5% in September. Grocery bills are just a pain right now. Frozen potato products are up 10%, pork products that are not sausages are 5.5% more expensive. While it would be too simplistic to say voters are more preoccupied with the cost of French fries than the price of democratic freedoms, it wouldn’t be far from the mark.

Yes, of course. The great unwashed are more concerned about the cost of a silly item like French fries (please ignore the overall crushing cost of food, heating, and fuel) and they don’t git a whit about freedom. God, I hate these condescending MFs.

I find McDonald’s French Fries more compelling than the January 6th Committee’s evidence.

The only thing compelling about that stupid committee is that it is an obsessive-compulsive hatefest.

Anyway, never mind the french fries; they are serving up stale kangarooburger, which some idiots seem to enjoy.

“compelling”. If you have to be told it is compelling, it’s not compelling

New tone? You mean like, “compelling evidence”?

Compelling evidenced for WHAT, exactly, other than INNUENDO like always?

“focused quest for the facts “

They are not focused on a quest for facts, they are focused on any damning evidence, testimony, hearsay, etc. they can find or invent. Anything contrary to that narrative (e.g., Epps) is buried, ignored, or called invalid.

than the threat to American democracy

CNN can shove democracy up their ass. People need to learn their history and learn American civics. It seems “democracy” is a code word these days. It even creeps into Republican politicians’ speech. We can tell the difference between MAGA Republicans and establishment Republicans by this single word. Because of this, I am starting to like the word. It’s an indicator that a lie is probably about to be told. Although there is one phrase that contains the word ‘democracy’ that I find especially delightful. As Steve Bannon says, “Democrats are going to get a democracy suppository in November.”

The elections weren’t “free and clear” you totalitarian

Explain the hours-long stoppage of counting in the crucial swing states when DJT was kicking your mentally ill pedophile’s ass?

And there’s more . . . don’t you read anything?
