Moscow’s occupying authorities in the southern Ukrainian city of Melitopol said Saturday they had brought back a statue of Lenin, seven years after it was taken down following Kyiv’s pro-EU revolution.
The Moscow-installed head of the Zaporizhzhia region, Vladimir Rogov, posted a photograph of workers in the city reinstating the tribute to the Bolshevik leader.
“After seven years the statue of Vladimir Lenin has returned to its place in Melitopol,” he said, adding that city authorities had taken it down in 2015.
Ukraine dismantled Lenin statues across the country after its 2014 revolution overthrew a Moscow-backed regime as part of its “de-communization drive.”

At least it’s not my ancestors right CSA basically all on both sides
The irony is how many posters here have Bolshie or Menshevik anti Czarist ancestry
Plus do we believe this article just saying
For those who want the burden of NATO reduced, this is perfect. The rest of NATO is increasing their defense budgets in response to Russian aggression, and the Russian military itself will be far less capable of aggression by the time this war is over. That will enable us to reduce our presence in Europe, and let the Europeans handle more of that responsibility.
At the same time, we will have strengthened our position to build a coalition should China, Iran, or anyone else decide that military expansion is a good thing. Allies will have seen us stand up to Russia, seen how much superior our military equipment is, and be more inclined to join us in collective defense.
That's a lot to gain for simply providing weapons to Ukraine.
Bingo. Russia is bleeding out, and it's at a much higher rate than it was during their ten years in Afghanistan (and they started that war as well). Despite all the pee-pants whining and lying that we see around here from the Putinistas, there are no US boots on the ground in Ukraine, and NATO and the US has spent relatively little money.
Yup, the Russians still embrace their communist heroes.
Well, maybe on Halloween... with a motion-activated howling soundtrack...
“The horror of statues I disagree with!!!!”
You’re naiive. Russia is honoring its communist past, a past that caused the deaths of millions of people.
I guess you’re okay with that.
I wholeheartedly agree.
Succinct summation.
Indeed.
:)
Great you can read minds.
That would be awesome!
At least they didn’t erect a Robert E. Lee statues.
How about a statue of Stepan Bandera? Would you be okay with that since you’re a champion of unpopular statues?
You miss my point entirely. That's OK.
There is a funny German movie, Good-bye, Lenin, about the end of Communism in East Germany. One scene has a giant statue of Lenin being carried through the air by a crane.
No, you missed your point when you support a regime that thinks Communist scum like Lenin deserve to be memorialized.
Nope. I don’t support Russia nor ukraine.
