I worked on a case similar to this... The attorneys had an sgreement to get 40% of the settlement from their client.
In addition the court awarded the attorneys their fees.
The 40% was $23 million from the client and the attorneys took the $20 million from the court awarded fees. The collected twice....
The attorneys walked away with $43 million. Crooks!

In other words, it cost someone 5 years and $2 million dollars to challenge a blatantly unconstituional law.
I would say that our legal system (It is NOT a "justice system) is broken, but this is exactly how the powers that be want things to be.
