I got hooked on those restoration videos, where they take these old rusted out Tonka Toys and restore them. It’s amazing to watch them turn out looking brand new.
I have an old rusted Tonka dump truck in my shed. I’m not sure I want it to look brand new, but then again, I could probably be convinced if the price was right.
Those are cool videos. Big Tonkas down to tiny Matchbox. It’s fun to see a toy that’s been put through the ringer refurbished into a display piece!
My girlfriends’s uncle has a small goldmine of antique toys he’s built up over decades. As far as I know, none are restored, and they’re all in pretty good shape. A little rust here and there, but if I were five years old again, I’d play with any of em.
Art-deco looking trucks from the 40s, everyday Tonka trucks from the 70s (with the label “Made in Mound, Minnesota”), pedal cars, weird little cash registers, old wooden trucks and cars, etc.
I had a peripheral connection to the antique “industry” for lack of a better word about 30 years ago, and old toys are big business.
“ake these old rusted out Tonka Toys and restore them”
That sounds like fun...
