... Washington’s formulation calls for balancing interest and justice. While in terms of justice, we should offer Ukraine as much support as we can afford, that support is necessarily limited by our own interests. One such interest is to avoid being drawn into an unnecessary war. Another is to be able to fight a war if it should come.
Regarding the first, as I recently wrote in GoLocalProv, “The desire to aid Ukraine in repelling Russian aggression is understandable, but our policymakers have to ask themselves if we, like the European leaders of 1914, are sleepwalking into a war, the possible consequences of which are disproportionate to US interests, especially in light of threats to these interests in the Pacific.”
Regarding the second, by supplying weapon systems to Ukraine, we have depleted our own stockpiles of weapons such as the High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) and air defense systems. This has created problems for the United States, especially in the Indo-Pacific region where we face our primary strategic challenge from China. For example, the Japanese newspaper Nikkei reported in early October that some parts of planned joint drills between Japan's ground forces and US Marines were canceled due to a lack of shells for the US HIMARS launching systems.

‘Zelenskyism’ is getting old and expensive.
I’m getting fatigued from it.
“America First 2024.”
This is a joke, right?
It’s not intended to be a joke, but of course YMMV. Mackubin Owens is a serious writer and in my opinion this is a well-reasoned piece.
Did you read it? If so, what points that Mr. Owens makes do you agree or disagree with?
The article makes a great point,”our policymakers have to ask themselves if we, like the European leaders of 1914 are sleepwalking into war.”
Our policy makers won’t ask that question because they don’t care. As long as they can enrich themselves they will push all the way to war. They are too STUPID, ARROGANT, and GREEDY to care about the consequences of their actions.
Besides, war is a great way to depopulate the world. The WEF is salivating watching or policy makers rushing headlong into war.
>> Besides, war is a great way to depopulate the world.
I hadn’t thought of it that way... but you have a point. I always had Schwab pegged more as the “famine and disease” type — bloodless genocide. War is too... messy.
Starting a nuclear Euro-war is a mite risky, though, if you live in Switzerland. ;-) The genocide is only supposed to take out the unwashed masses, leaving the WEF globalist elites to thrive.

My position is, if the DC Establishment keeps ‘playing with fire’ they’re eventually going to get their ass nuked into oblivion.
It might be a good time to start moving our historical relics out of DC, so they can be preserved for posterity.
Russia started this war for their reasons, not our reasons for them. Ukraine, Europe and the US are dealing with the war Russia started. If you think this war is expensive, the next war Russia starts in Europe will cost more. The US and Europe are not going to wait for that to happen.
Russia started out playing softball... They did not want to cause irreparable damage to their fellow Slavs. NATO and Zelinsky ran roughshod over definite lines in the sand. Now after the US has squandered hundreds of billions of dollars and caused this thing to drag out, the Russians are switching gears. Our squandered billions have ensured that Ukrainians will be living back in the stone age. This was never about fairness or helping out Ukrainians. It has caused the deaths of untold thousands of Ukrainians and Russians. It was always about using Ukraine as a giant money laundering machine for the Democrats... Ukrainians be damned. Why do you think AOC, etc., etc... have been all in.
But you just go ahead and keep giving Joe Biden all of your support. He is a genius when it comes to military strategy as the botched pullout in Afghanistan demonstrated. I am sure that this will turn out just as well only with the possibility of starting WWIII over something that was never any of our business.
I see. A neocon. There’s money to be made in war!
Are you eagerly awaiting Liz Cheney 2024?
Here’s a clue: Russia invading Ukraine is ONE HUNDRED PERCENT an artifact of the stolen 2020 election. Pootie would have stayed in his hole under President Trump. Do you dispute that?
So why throw billions of $$$ in US treasure into the fire at the whim of Joe Brandon? Why? Unless you kinda LIKE him, that is...
We should recruit all our Anti-fa to go protest in Ukraine. :-)
Kill 2 birds with one stone. Hope they like winter!
Pretty rational assessment. Must be a Russian spy.
Thanks for revealing to everyone that you are living in a fantasy-land. The Neo-Nazis in Ukraine have been in leadership positions and terrorizing and killing Russian speakers for years. They are officially sanctioned and sponsored.
Every country has its share of freaks. But to say that Russia has “a bigger neo-nazi problem than Ukraine” shows that you are capable of believing absolutely any form of propaganda that comes your way.
My point is the US feral government has no interest in prudent anything, no matter how prudent the author is.
Point taken.
