The metric is called “readiness”. It had a big drop off after WWII, a smaller one after Korea. A great big one after Vietnam, especially when the draft ended.
Its most recent peak was with Vietnam era veterans in training roles leading in to the Reagan years and military build up. But that showed the first problems, because enthusiasm could not replace fitness.
That is, more and more volunteers could not meet the fitness standards. Importantly, there was no end of *effort* to get recruits up to standards, but physical fitness for them began too late.
This is why I suggest “pre-training”, not as a method to get them up to standard, but to get them up to training standard.
It’s not just exercise, but excess weight reduction. So assigned meals *along* with exercise, just to get them to boot camp training entrance standards, or hopefully, better than standards.
Compared to this, purging the woke is a minor thing indeed. Granted it still needs to be done, but such a correction is relatively easy to do compared to weight and PT stuff.
Bunk. Don’t by the woke DOD cya story. It is about the woke. Plain and simple.
