A recent college graduate in Utah was shot several times by police during a traffic stop in early March after officers allegedly saw him reaching for a gun, body camera video shows.

Farmington, Utah, police department officers stopped 25-year-old Chase Allan after seeing an illegitimate license plate on the BMW car he was driving at 3:22 p.m. on March 1. Police Chief Eric Johnsen released body camera video relating to the incident on Wednesday.

When the police officer told Allan that he was being stopped because there was no registration on the car, Allan said, "I don't need registration and I don't answer questions." The officer requested backup, and four other officers arrived at the scene.

Is there video of him reaching for a weapon?

Or, just the cop’s claim?

Moronic Sovereign Citizen. I’m sure he just couldn’t wait to post the video of him “owning a cop” on social media. Well, now even more people can see his stupid video...

listen closely to the video and you’ll hear the nitwit was citing his constitutional rights...

gotta give props to people that take action and stand up for their rights instead of preaching from a keyboard...

As a former cop I was trained to not become “provoked”. This “don’t provoke the cops, politely comply”, feeds into the thin blue line credo of “follow my orders or you risk bodily harm so I can return safely to my family tonight” and is dangerous to freedom. The driver, while being a jerk, did not pull his open carry legal weapon yet 4 cops jointly opened fire when one allegedly saw a holster. Where was the de-escalation techniques they should have learned in training? Backing away from the vehicle and opening a dialog would have most likely had a more desirable result. Situational training, Constitutional rights and a more thorough understanding of the laws of your jurisdiction is needed by our police forces. Sorry, I’ll get off my soap box now.

...as I said, I’m operating on an assumption that the article we both are reading and relying on is “substantially correct”.

As my 5,000 plus comments evidence, I most often support the cops and try to give them the benefit of the doubt.

But, I find myself wondering about this article. Let’s wait and see what develops on the case.

Surprise twist: He’s not a black guy. Media will let this one drop soon.

For the officers sake, I hope the investigation that is sure to come bolsters their claim that the guy was a threat.

Utah does require registration. This guy must have missed that in his law class.

My experience has been that immediate disclosure got me particularly good treatment, so good, indeed, that it’s become my SOP.

Yep, pretty much. Arizona doesn't have a "must announce" law but before I move my hands anywhere I tell the cop what I'm carrying and where it is. I just don't move anything until that cop has processed what I told him and lets me know what he wants me to do next. No surprises for the cop has, so far, prevented any surprises for me. That being said, it's kind of entertaining to see the cop's eyes roll back in his head when I tell him I'm carrying.

Almost forgot, for the record, getting pulled over seems to be much less of an issue when I'm obeying traffic laws and driving a vehicle that's in good repair.

So is Kentucky. But I and my family members maintain their CCDW anyway for travel outside of the state.

If they thought he was reaching for the gun, it would warrant shooting him. You don’t have to wait for someone to grab it & point it.

I probably live somewhere near you. Haven't been stopped while carrying, but my plan is to keep my hands on the steering wheel, tell the cop what gun I've go and where it is, and keep my hands on the steering wheel until he tells me what to do.

Seems like simple courtesy AND my best chance to drive home alive.

Maybe they only had 2.4 round magazines instead of 9 or 14 round magazines.
