U.S. President Joe Biden's nominee to head the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is withdrawing his nomination after Republican criticism that he was not qualified to serve as the top aviation regulator.
Last year, Biden nominated Denver International Airport CEO Phil Washington to serve as FAA administrator. A spokesperson for Washington at the airport did not immediately comment.
Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg late Saturday confirmed Washington's withdrawal first reported by Reuters.
"The partisan attacks and procedural obstruction he has faced are undeserved, but I respect his decision to withdraw and am grateful for his service," Buttigieg said on Twitter.

Well he wasn’t qualified if ‘qualified’ meant he knew anything about planes... but I’m sure he was ‘qualified’ if it meant he was a sexual weirdo, of color, or had a powerful connected father or grandfather...

The near misses are attributable to affirmative action air traffic controllers, according to an air traffic controller friend of mine. Obama lowered the standards for hiring and they’re still lower than they used to be. What’s truly frightening is the problems are being blamed on everything else. If you criticize any liberal program you get cancelled, so it’s only going to get worse. Consequently I don’t fly anymore.
Too bad this man had to suffer the embarrassment of being nominated for a position he was not qualified for. Basically EVERY member of this administration is unqualified, but unfortunately for Washington, being Black was not enough to bully him through.

They had a cheating scandal in 2016 with an FAA official giving the answers to a certain group!

Saddest part of this is that it was “Republican criticism” that forced his withdrawal, and not bipartisan recognition that this guy was obviously not qualified for the job.

Corruptocrat from the Denver giant remade airport, who knew nothing about the real purpose of duties of the FAA for the vast majority of the CONUS. Private pilots, aircraft certification, many many other real duties requiring knowledge and real experience.
I haven't followed this closely, but it appears to me the Biden administration is clueless on how things work. If you give the nominee the benefit of the doubt, he is qualified to oversee airport terminal and construction operations, but not actual flight operations...
