Republicans have the opportunity to take back the Kentucky governor’s mansion from Democratic Gov. Andy Beshear – who narrowly won in 2019 – in November, and numerous GOP contenders are itching for the nomination.
Beshear is running for his second term in 2023 in a state with a Republican supermajority in the legislature. Though 12 Republicans are running in the May 16 GOP primary, there are three clear frontrunners whose campaigns will largely hinge on issues such as education and crime while also targeting Beshear’s record on COVID-19, they told the Daily Caller News Foundation.
“Andy Beshear doesn’t represent Kentucky’s values. I’ve had to fight Beshear’s agenda so many times as attorney general, that I decided to do something about it and run to defeat him,” Daniel Cameron, the state’s attorney general, told the DCNF.

They’ll find a “libertarian” to take votes from the republican like they did 4 years ago
That would be a huge improvement, and hopefully would pave the way to oust The Turtle in 2026.
KY uses Dominion.
When a state uses Dominion, the Republicans always seem to "split their ticket." They vote for the Turtle in the Senate, but then vote in a Dem governor. Or in GA, they vote for a RINO governor and then vote for a radical leftist for the Senate.
Funny that. Only Republicans seem to be the ones who 'split their tickets' in this political climate.
Yeah, right.
this just baffles me...such a deep red state, yet they keep electing dem Governors. They elected this current guys father who was a real wacko. Only State wide office the dems win in Kentucky. Strange.
Daniel Cameron is AWSOME he would definitely be my guy!!!
KY has long kept Democrat governors in office though the state is considered Republican. It will be a tough fight to prevail.
Dan Cameron for Governor...
No matter what, if the Dems have control of the vote count, Cameron cannot win.
I moved to Kentucky from Seattle about 12 years ago. Normally, the voters here agree with me on pretty much everything. But the one exception was the shears race for governor. And I can tell you that the reason he won is because Devin was actually trying to clean up the state books and this really ticked off the teachers. I know because a lot of my friends are families that have teachers in them and they hated Bevin even though they’re conservative families.
In fact, what happened with the Bevan the shear race is a microcosm of democracy is doomed to failure at the end of the day. When someone gets in there to actually make the changes necessary to keep the country strong. Anyone whose ox is being gored will vote against them no matter what party they belong to. It’s like the kids deciding whether Mom or Dad has the final say in matters and they determine it based on which one says yes the most.
The good news is there is no bed in this time so I expect the Republican to win. Uncle Andy has looked like a fool ever since he got in. But people need to remember that before Bevin the governor was Andy’s dad.
thats what im saying...regardless of what was going on with Bevin, they still elected this guys father, BEFORE that....a real loon too.
(Daniel Cameron is AWSOME he would definitely be my guy!!!)
I’ll be voting for him.
KY already has a Commie Red Governor.
I actually voted for the Sr. Beshear, for his 2nd term. He was whacky, but so was the Rep House Leader who was running against him. What I saw was, when Ky had some serious budget shortfalls, Steve Beshear found ways to cut corners and DIDN'T raise taxes. I appreciated that. Generally, he was an OK guy, and with R's in firm control of of the legislature, he couldn't do much harm.
His son, however, I will NEVER vote for... ever. He totally screwed this State during COVID times. He must be punished.
There is NO DOUBT that you are correct about the vitriol the teachers had for Bevin. It was incredible. Especially considering, ALL he was trying to do was, keep their pension plan solvent by having NEW teachers hire-in with a very generous 401K matching donation system... You know, the kind practically EVERY worker in the private system has.
Still though, I don't believe that election at all. I think, the 2018 Ky election, with Dominion machines, was a dry run for what the planned in 2020. Never, in all my life, have I see SO MANY ballots that only voted for ONE office... Governor. Nothing else. Just NO to Bevin.
I ain't buying it.
I've always liked the guy and was planning on voting for him.
This Craft lady sure has some BIG Money behind her. She's been running blanket coverage ads for months. Some are pretty negative against Cameron.
I always get a chuckle when Kelly Craft crows that she will "Take on China"... I mean, does she KNOW that she's just running for Ky. Gov? What's she gonna do, embargo bourbon from them?
I think, the 2018 Ky election, with Dominion machines, was a dry run for what the planned in 2020.
One thing the 2020 and Bevin elections have in common is the only way they can justify the results is there was such a turnout of people that HATED the incumbant. I also believe that for Trump to lose, the voter turnout had to be close to 100%. The math alone says it was rigged.
We were contemplating a move from MA to KY in 2019, and I heard Bevin speak. I was knocked out by the guy, and we couldn’t wait to live in the state he governed. We moved here in the summer of ‘20 and presto-chango: Beshear. I began asking around, and every person I spoke to said Bevin p’d off the teachers union and they got him defeated. I was gratified to read that Daily Caller article this AM. We’ve been seeing a few Quarles for governor signs here in Eastern KY, but otherwise radio silence.
I’ve lived here forever...Beshear has this one in the bag. Teachers and state worker unions will turn out big for him.
