Sounds like an accidental shooting at worse.. guys 80 and a black kid knocks on his door. Odds would normally be 99% chance of an intruder or something even worse. That’s just the way it is.

The police let the guy go. There’s more to this story than is being reported.
Not sure how every 80 year old (or any year old) (regardless of color) would respond to a black kid (or white kid) at their front door at 10PM demanding that they release 2 black kids (or 2 white kids) that they don't have.
In the last, oh, twenty (20) years, I've had one (1) person come to my door after 10PM and it was a policeman telling me that my wife had left her car door open.
I'd be interested in knowing if words were exchanged, and if they were, what they were.
whole lot of factors could be overlooked to boost the emotional reaction to this incident. It’s not about giving the reader or listener information, it’s all about the emotion.
The police freed the old man and arrested the gun for aggravated assault with intent to commit murder. It’s being held without bail. The gun was also jailed for contempt of court because it refused to answer the hearing judge’s questions at the weapon’s arraignment.
The DA is hopes to persuade the old man to testify against the gun.
The weapon is reputed to be a jefe in the Western Hemisphere’s most notorious cartel, La Pistola del Norte.

Could’ve all been avoided if the homeowner had a Ring-like device where he could speak to the door knocker without opening the door. Of course, most 80+ year olds are not very technically savvy, but presumably family members could have taught him, if he had any. As it stands, this dude was minding his own business at home and likely is now in hot water because of lack of communication between the homeowner and visitor.
The old man can’t rely on self-defense.
