~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: Fort Belvoir, Virginia

VAfortbelvoir1

Fort Belvoir is a United States Army installation in Fairfax County, Virginia, United States. It was developed on the site of the former Belvoir plantation, seat of the prominent Fairfax family for whom Fairfax County was named. It was known as Camp A. A. Humphreys from 1917 to 1935 and Fort Belvoir afterward.

Fort Belvoir is home to a number of significant United States military organizations. With nearly twice as many workers as The Pentagon, Fort Belvoir is the largest employer in Fairfax County. Fort Belvoir comprises three geographically distinct areas: main base, Davison Army Airfield, and Fort Belvoir North.

Fort Belvoir is home to the Virginia National Guard's 29th Infantry Division (Light) and elements of ten Army Major Commands; nineteen different agencies and direct reporting units of the Department of Army; eight elements of the United States Army Reserve and the Army National Guard; and twenty-six Department of Defense agencies.

Also located here are the 249th Engineer Battalion (Prime Power), the Military District of Washington's 12th Aviation Battalion which provides rotary-wing movement to the DoD and Congress, a Marine Corps detachment, a United States Air Force activity, United States Army Audit Agency, and an agency from the Department of the Treasury.

In addition, Fort Belvoir is home to National Reconnaissance Office's (NRO) Aerospace Data Facility-East (ADF-E).

The National Museum of the United States Army is the official museum for the history of the United States Army and is just outside Washington, D.C. It opened on November 11, 2020. The objectives of the museum are to honor America's soldiers, preserve Army history, and educate the public about the Army's role in American history. The U.S. Army announced April 16, 2020 that the museum would delay its opening due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Howdy, Kathy.

I see it’s been a pretty day up there. Lots of sunshine and above freezing. Should be a lot more drip, drip, dripping going on.

Yo radu, how you doing?

We've had some nice warm weather and then some Spring rains, every thing is turning green and the early flower bulbs are sprouting up.

So so weekend, visited Robin and son on Sunday; she's heading out later this week for a lady's quilting get-away at a lake resort where they sit around all day, for 4 days quilting and talking about whatever gals talk about, LOL.

So I'll visit and feed the pups if son has to work late, always like taking care of the little rascals.

What's up your way?

Howdy, PRO.

How was your weekend? Weather still behaving like it’s Spring or is it flip flopping like ours is?

LOL! I was typing as you were posting.

Glad to hear Spring seems to be sticking around at last. It’s so nice to see everything come back to life, isn’t it?
Well, except for the grass because that means mowing. LOL

Quilting getaway, huh? Whatever floats yer boat, I reckon. :-) Sounds like a great excuse to run off for “girls’ days out” without raising suspicions. ROTFL!
On a serious note, I hope they all have a great time. Bet there’ll be some gorgeous quilts at the end.

The museum opened Saturday and it was a blast. Yesterday was spent recuperating. I’m a little out of shape for all that walking and I was aching.

Tonight, I’m trying to recover from another loss. Had to put one of my sweet kittehs to sleep because she had kidney failure. We had 14 good years together and she was never sick until this struck her down.

There are still 25 furbabies to love and take care of - - and run rampant. LOL The new moon is coming up and they’ll be on a tear later this week.

April 18

Future Faithfulness

Bible in a Year:

I will give them all the prosperity I have promised them.

Jeremiah 32:42

Sara lost her mother when she was just fourteen years old. She and her siblings lost their house soon after and became homeless. Years later, Sara wanted to provide her future children with an inheritance that could be passed down from generation to generation. She worked hard to purchase a house, giving her family the stable home she never had.

Investing in a home for future generations is an act of faith toward a future you don’t yet see. God told the prophet Jeremiah to purchase land just before the violent siege of Jerusalem by the Babylonians (Jeremiah 32:6–12). To the prophet, God’s instructions didn’t make a lot of sense. Soon all their property and belongings would be confiscated.

But God gave Jeremiah this promise: “As I have brought all this great calamity on this people, so I will give them all the prosperity I have promised them” (v. 42). The prophet’s investment in property was a physical sign of God’s faithfulness to someday restore the Israelites to their homeland. Even in the midst of a terrible attack, God promised His people that peace would come again—homes and property would be bought and sold again (vv. 43–44).

Today we can put our trust in God’s faithfulness and choose to “invest” in faith. Although we may not see an earthly restoration of every situation, we have the assurance that He’ll someday make everything right. .

Reflect & Pray

What causes you to lose sight of God’s faithfulness? How can you “invest” in light of the restoration He promises?

Dear God, help me to invest today for the future I can’t yet see.

Howdy, luvie.

Glad you got a little rain today. Sure would have been nice if it had been an all-day soaker. But every little bit counts!

The eldest daughter recently finished 2 years at Fort Belvoir, transferred to UVA/Charlottesville for several months of Army school, and she and the SIL will be heading to Ft Bragg in a couple of months. Grandma and Grandpa will be there to corral the grandkids during their move.

My boss is a dyed in the wool quilter as well. She makes lots of quilts and is always talking about new fabrics and quilt stuff. She even has a special quilting machine that takes up most of a whole bedroom. I guess those with the bug love to get together.

Hey there, radu!

It WAS nice to have a bit of rain. Probably unmeasurable but it was a beautiful sound and smelled soooo good.

It didn’t seem to be that chilly there. I hope you got some much-needed sunshine.
