The Way to Sell Beer - Pabst and Wade Boggs Show Bud Light How It’s Done in New Ad Campaign
Red State ^ | 4/19/23 | Brad Slager

The saga of the Anheuser-Busch promotional debacle continues to swirl, with mounting boycotts and a growing tide of counter-activism taking place. Ted Lieu and Adam Schiff posed with Bud Light bottles in hand, looking about as natural doing so as Dylan Mulvaney looks like a natural woman. (Seriously, I’d be more inclined to turn away from a brand due to a Ted Lieu endorsement than I would a dude cosplaying as an overcaffeinated high schooler.)

Now this is the way to do a beer commercial. A bit of history, nostalgia, and a bit of humor. No matter how piss poor your beer tastes, you will sell more beer if the consumers identify with those you use in your advertising.

Always liked Wade Boggs and PBR. I think pabst gets a bad reputation because hipsters always ordered it.

Well, at one point in my youth, I drank Pabst. If memory serves, it tasted real well after a hot sticky shift in a web pressroom. Maybe just maybe, I will give it a try in my eightys. Hell, I might like it. If not there is always the Clear Creek run off from Golden.

That’s a cool commercial! I like that a lot. Boggs, baseball, beer...can’t get better than those 3Bs.

PBR was my kids camping beer. Then PBR did something woke a few years ago, so now they refuse to buy it. I think it was support for Black Lives Matter, it was around that period, but I don’t remember what it was.

I ain’t never been what anyone would call hip (I’ve lived as a PROUD REDNECK and I’ll die as a PROUD REDNECK) but I’ve always liked Pabst Blue Ribbon Beer.

Just can’t usually get it here on the left coast!

“Well, at one point in my youth, I drank Pabst.”

I did as well. It was an inexpensive beer and perfect for teen “dirt-road” riding as we had nothing better to do in the country but ride the roads, meet up with our friends who were doing the same, drink cheap beer, and eventually all end up at the rough-built bar that had two pool tables and three pin-ball machines.

Our other option was to end up on a dead-end logging road we called the “Circle” (which I could not find again to this day), where we would build a bonfire and sit around drinking Pabst or Miller-lite type beers and listen to the Allman Brothers, the Little River Band, Marshall Tucker, and other southern rock bands until it was time for all the girls to get home prior to curfew.

We would discuss religion and philosophy and the meaning of life and many of those conversations I can remember to this day.

No cell phones or electronics at all. A simple life that teens today would not understand or enjoy.

One of the worst cans of piss ever brewed. Not saying I didn’t drink them but I was 14 and had a paper route so that was all I could afford.

It was usually the cheapest beer at college bars so hipsters always ordered it. Though it depends on the area , I’m from Boston so there were always a lot of college kids around.

Exactly. That’s what I loved about it. Every brewing company these days is trying to out-do each other in creating advertising campaigns to show Bud how it should be done to not only please your current customers, but also to bring in more drinkers to your brand. The result is some great ads that target the good ole boys (and gals) and hard-working beer drinkers who just want a cold brew after work with no politics included. The are targeting the same consumers who have left Bud Light behind and in the store coolers. The Bud boycott is not going away anytime soon.

Pabst is a great beer. Had it fresh off the brewery once and it was great.

Never had a PBR.

My first beer was Coors Light....and then I discovered the joys of IPAs.
