Walgreens paying San Francisco $230M after city’s win in opioid case

Walgreens will pay the city of San Francisco nearly $230 million, after a federal judge found the company liable for contributing to the city’s opioid epidemic.

The settlement, which will be paid out over 14 years, will go towards addressing the city’s opioid crisis, San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu announced on Wednesday.

“Opioids have wreaked havoc across our nation leading to immense suffering and untold damage,” he said in a statement. “Cities like San Francisco have shouldered much of the burden of the opioid epidemic. “

“Following our win against Walgreens during the liability phase, this historic agreement ensures Walgreens is held accountable for the crisis they fueled and our City receives appropriate resources to combat the opioid crisis and bring relief to our communities,” Chiu added.

How the hell is this Walgreens fault??? This just sets the tone for blaming gun manufactures when someone uses their product to shoot somebody.

You have to be insane to own a retail business of any kind in SF, and soon every Democrat-run city in the US.

The Liberals will come at you for anything, they have more legal resources, and they own the courts there. A retail business owner doesn’t stand a chance.

Take it out of the money the bums and addicts owe Walgreens for "shrinkage" and sidewalk cleaning.

I’m sure the city will use this money to continue handing out millions of free needles, which of course does NOT contribute to the city’s drug problem.

The money will be used to supply clean needles to drug addicts and ‘safe zones” where they can shoot up without negative judgements and scorned looks from passerby’s.

Woohoo. Nice windfall for S.F. Gonna be tough deciding on whether to spend this on slavery reparations, free weed for the homeless, more drag-queen events... or all three.

Why would any business continue operating in that area? They’ll come after you with everything they have. Get out now!

And if they had refused to fill the prescriptions, they’d have been sued for refusing medical care.

this is stunning hypocrisy since SF doesn’t give a shit about people dying of drug addiction. In fact, they promote it, fuel it and fund it.

How the hell is this Walgreens fault???

People on FR often ask why corporations go woke at the expense of their customer base. This is why. If Walgreens had expressed enough "solidarity" with all the woke groups, and paid their 10% to the Big Guy, this suit would never have happened. The disloyal opposition in this country will get you, one way or another.

Controlled Substance Utilization Review and Evaluation System

CURES Registration Requirements

California law (Health and Safety Code Section 11165.1) requires all California licensed health care practitioners authorized to prescribe Schedule II, Schedule III, Schedule IV and Schedule V controlled substances to register for access to CURES upon issuance of a Drug Enforcement Administration Controlled Substance Registration Certificate. California licensed pharmacists must register for access to CURES upon issuance of a Board of Pharmacy Pharmacist License.

Prescriber and Pharmacist registration to access CURES is simple and fully automated. Prescribers and Pharmacists can register by accessing the CURES User Registration.

CURES Mandatory Consultation

Section 11165.4 of the Health and Safety Code, sets forth the requirements for mandatory consultation of CURES. Please refer to your respective state licensing board for additional information regarding the CURES consultation requirement.

Controlled Substance Data Reporting

California Health & Safety Code section 11165(d) requires that for each prescription for a Schedule II, Schedule III, Schedule IV, or Schedule V controlled substance, as defined in the controlled substances schedules in federal law and regulations, the dispensing pharmacy, clinic, or other dispenser shall report specified dispensing information to the Department of Justice or contracted prescription data processing vendor as soon as reasonably possible, but not more than one working day after the date a controlled substance is released to the patient or patient’s representative. Additionally, California Health & Safety Code section 11165(i) states veterinarians shall report dispensation information as soon as reasonably possible, but not more than seven days after the date a controlled substance is dispensed. Furthermore, California Health & Safety Code section 11190(c) requires that for each Schedule II, Schedule III, and Schedule IV controlled substance, as defined in California Health & Safety Code section 11007, dispensed by a prescriber pursuant to Section 4170 of the Business and Professions Code, the dispensing prescriber shall report to the Department of Justice the information required by subdivision (c) on a weekly basis.

Walgreens is part of the deliberate opioid addiction & delivery system, along with the doctors, pharmacists, Big Pharma and US gov. - all of whom profit handsomely from the massive addiction problem they created, pushed, curated, and celebrate. They did the same shit with CCP Virus and the “vaccine”.

The money is a drop in the bucket. Just shifting it around from one demo-marxist conspirator to another.
