The story of a boat that sank on Lake Maggiore on 28 May has elements of a spy novel.
Four people tragically drowned on the picturesque and popular lake south of the Swiss Alps.
One was a former agent from Israel's spy agency Mossad, two were Italian intelligence officers and the fourth victim was a Russian woman.

There is huge interest in the accident and public prosecutor Carlo Nocerino has been tasked with finding out what happened. He says 13 of those on board were Italian agents and eight were Israeli agents. Only the captain, Claudio Carminati, and his Russian wife did not work in intelligence.
The cruise was planned to celebrate the birthday of someone on board. The 15-metre-long boat was an apt choice - it was called "Good…uria", a play on words that means "pleasure".
Mr Nocerino added that the boat only had capacity for 15 passengers, but there were eight more than that aboard.
It is being reported that the overcrowding made it harder for the captain to manoeuvre the boat in adverse weather conditions.
Overloaded and bad weather , deadly combo.
Was it a three hour tour?
I would’ve thought “intelligence agents” are smarter than your average bear.
Wrong again.
They AREN’T DEAD is my bet!!
The Captain in this case will have charges made up...I doubt that he gets anything less than 20 years in prison. But I would imagine he disappears within a week or two.
What the hell was the captain thinking ?
Going to need a bigger boat !
I betcha A LOT of firearms were lost to this boat accident
Nothing to see here. This didn’t happen because there was no boat and all the people on it weren’t there.
Paging Jason Bourne to the courtesy phone.
Remember several years ago during Obama’s term when a bunch of our CIA people in Afghanistan got killed while holding a birthday party for what turned out to be an an Qaeda or Taliban double agent?
Two Italian spooks died and one Israeli spook died, and also the Russian wife of the Captain.
The captain and most of the other passengers survived.
I don’t know about a party, but yes a double agent . They were supposedly recruiting him.
Objection, your honor. Assuming facts not in evidence.
Dang! All my guns and ammo were on that boat!
Appears Capt lost his wife in the incident as well.
“Appears Capt lost his wife in the incident as well.”
Ah ha! The REAL reason for the “accident”.
Something else happened or about to happen?.
They dramatized that event in “Zero Dark Thirty.” The CIA chief has a plan to bring a local Taliban warlord over to “our side” and prepares a fete for him at the base. The warlord instead tests the CIA’s gullibility by agreeing to meet and sends over a suicide bomber. The rest is history.
The event was known as the Camp Chapman Attack. I got the particulars wrong. But, as we know, a spectacular screwup.

Only the captain, Claudio Carminati, and his Russian wife did not work in intelligence.
Russian wife.... she was a spy.
