I thought that Italy has ceased allowing the boats carrying these invaders to land on Italian shores. What happened to that policy?

The humane thing would have been for the Greek or Italian navy to SINK IT.
Then whole corrupt, mafia-run, dangerous, illegal, corrupt human-smuggling business would stop, saving thousands of lives in the future.
