An active-duty missile corvette of the Indian Navy is on its way to Vietnam as a gift, the first warship given by India to any country.
The domestically built corvette INS Kirpan left India's east coast on Wednesday (Jun 28), the navy said.
India and Vietnam have strengthened their ties in recent years, with a special focus on defence, as both countries are concerned over an increasingly assertive China. India has given smaller boats and military equipment to countries like Maldives and Mauritius in the past and a submarine to Myanmar.

The Vietnamese hate China. Great move India.
Yeah, Vietnam and China are not on friendly terms.
George: So countries just exchange gifts like that?
Jerry: If they like each other.
Khukri-class corvette
Biden has declared after he gets Iraq conquered he will bring all the American troops home from Vietnam by Christmas.
The last war China fought was with Vietnam. The Chinese got their butts kicked.
Was in built in a call center?
So did US military. Docha remember Americans flying off from roof tops in helicopters from Saigon?
No it did not the US military all but won the war - had it gone on a few more weeks or months, NV would have surrendered - NV Vo Nguyen Giap, commander NV People’s Army.
The socialist and the commies in the US forced the US to end support - sort of like Afghanistan
Almost makes you wish the State Department hadn’t told Ho Chih Minh to go screw off and handed his country back to the French, huh?
The socialist and the commies in the US forced the US to end support - sort of like Afghanistan
Exactly!
If if if...dear PIF, the result is what counts, not Ifs and buts. The whole world saw Americans escaping in helicopters from roof tops.
Well, it was such a stupid war anyway. Nothing to gain by victory. Vietnam was never going to morph into western style democracy. All that money and blood wasted for what? I visited Vietnam 6 years ago. It looked good without any Americans there.
He’ll need those troops to invade Grenada to eliminate Chinese spy bases.
The sad part is that we didn’t need to have that whole stupid mess in the first place. Ho Chih Minh was a communist, but he fought the Japanese in WW2 for/with the US to evict them from his country and he came to us first after the war to ask to not have his country handed back to the French as a colony.
At the time, we could have told the French they couldn’t have their colony back and made it stick with little to no cost on our part. One condition of our aid would have been be a democratic government, which Minh would probably willingly have done. Instead, the State Department sold him and his country back to France and.... well, you know the rest. Having been sold out by his former allies back to his former slavemaster, he went to the next source of help on his list, the Communist bloc.
The Vietnam War should not have happened.
Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq...the stupidest foreign wars in history of world, on BORROWED money, all increased national debt, and sacrificed young brave American lives by the thousands and maimed even more.
What was the objective? To convert those countries to what?
And now we are doing the same stupid mistake in Ukraine with more BORROWED money. Utter stupidity.
Good to read one sane post.
India is working to constrain and send a message to China that Biden will not.
Unlike Vietnam, Afghanistan and Iraq there are NO US troops on the ground. Most weaponry they receive are weapons that were built especially for fighting against Russia. The Ukrainians are the ones fighting Russia and if they continue with successes, we may no longer need NATO ground troops in Europe. Russia is losing big.
