Is he still alive?

He's been in hospice longer than the hostages were in Iran.

Jimmy Carter owes a lot of Americans an apology.

BTW, the deposed CIA-installed Shah was a son of a bitch in his own right. Doesn’t excuse the current regime’s atrocities, but the revolution happened for a reason and disappearances of political opponents, crushing dissidents and protests, stealing money & property from citizens was aplenty during that regime.

Persians are nice people generally, and pro- Israel, which is ironicly. One of the worst thing Obama did was not to support the uprising

Jimmy Carter....the Grandaddy of modern terrorism.

If one has never been to a muslim country, one doesn’t have any idea what they’re like on the ground.

Afghanistan....Yes, Bacha Bazi is real.

The entire Muslim World...led by people that are considered heavy handed. Why? Because they know how dangerous the ‘bad guys’ are.

So, they do one of two things or both:

1. they put them in prison for a long, long time, as the Shah and so many others did.

2. they corral them in an area and leave them alone. They’re left alone with the knowledge that if they pop their heads out and cause trouble, it’s going to be bad, really really bad for them and their pals.

When Carter forced the Shah out and rolled out the red carpet for the Ayatollah, the prisons were emptied and modern terrorism was reborn.

Of course, no one likes to talk about another terrorist, Mandela. In prison for bombings and murders, but they ignore all of that and paint him as a political prisoner.

“BTW, the deposed CIA-installed Shah was a son of a bitch in his own right.”

CIA 1953. Then Carter gave refuge after.

That refuge was the issue why Iran hates us.

Ooh Rah! Bomb bomb Iran!

Except there are still Christians there. Acceptable losses? Their fault for being stupid Christians? Is there such a thing as a stupid Christian?

Yes... There is...

Yup...all of the above.

But he had all the bad guys where they belonged. In prisons.

So, given your statement....

the Shah and all his “misgivings” and no state sponsored terrorism

Soleimani, commander of the Quds Force, an IRGC division primarily responsible for extraterritorial and clandestine military operations, spreading/training/supporting/executing terrorism all over the world

Which one are you picking? Lets not forget about Ahmadinejad, one of the hostage takers in his rambunctious youth.

It wasn’t a “revolution.” it was a coup supported by Carter with his delusional concept of basing foreign policy on “human rights.” He not only owes Iran an apology he owes an apology to the rest of the world who have had to deal with decades of Iranian based terrorism. As for the Shah, he explained succinctly in an interview with western reporters his needing to keep control of divisive factions and troublesome mullahs fighting against him and each other. “When my people act like Swedes, I will act like the king of Sweden.”

While the Shah was authoritarian, Carter traded him in for theocratic totalitarians.

Doesn’t excuse the current regime’s atrocities, but the revolution happened for a reason and disappearances of political opponents, crushing dissidents and protests, stealing money & property from citizens was aplenty during that regime.”

Here’s my experience with Middle Eastern Muslims. They may seem like nice people. One working for me was the guy you’d say, He’s a moderate Muslim. I asked why he had decided to have a minimum of fifteen children. At forty-something he married a 12-year-old, and she was pregnant when he brought her to the US. His offhand answer was, “We need soldiers for the Jihad.” Another time he screamed at me, “You won’t like it when we take over. You’ll be my slave. You’ll pay me taxes.” A very nice Drews I knew in college told me, “I agree with (the Iranian protestors) because if I don’t, they can have me killed the moment I step off the plane at home.”

A reporter said of the Syrian rebels. They’re all evil. The good ones only want to kill those who aren’t like them. The bad ones want to burn them slowly alive. But it’s death either way.

These aren’t people you can be a nice leader with. You’re either a bastard dictator or you’re a dead man. The Shah tried to be a nice guy and look what it got him.

In a related story. During the 1905 Russian revolution a soldier told the Tzar, “Sire, either you issue the order to fire, or you must abdicate.” That was the Shah’s choice. He wanted to please Carter, which was something he couldn’t have done because Carter had no idea what the Shah had to deal with. Carter saw a world where, no matter what a person’s background, that person held the same sensibilities as Jimmy did. Nothing could be farther from the truth.
