The Shah was no bargain, but he was the best you could hope for in Iran at the time. Khomeini was a homicidal maniac, and the students who supported him now have lived to regret it. Or at least some of them have.

The whole site has some not so well known nuggets of history. He also covers the Carter years. Might be worth your time to dig through it as a supporting reference resource. I first read it all years ago and found a whole lot of history not talked about. :)
