‘Everything is burning’: Cluster bombs rain down on Russian troops in Ukraine

‘EVERYTHING IS BURNING’: United States-provided cluster munitions made their debut on the battlefields of Ukraine this week, with Ukrainian commanders reporting they are making a difference as efforts continue to break through Russian defenses.

“We have gotten some initial feedback from the Ukrainians, and they're using them quite effectively,’ NSC spokesman John Kirby said in a White House briefing. “They're using them appropriately … and they are actually having an impact on Russia's defensive formations and Russia's defensive maneuvering.”

Intercepted messages posted on Twitter by a pro-Ukrainian media platform indicate the controversial weapons are having a psychological impact on entrenched front-line Russian troops. “At the moment, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are demolishing our positions in the Bakhmut direction with cluster munitions,” one message says. “The counter-battery fight does not work. Everything is burning all around. The men are holding on, waiting for aviation. The General Staff has not yet handed over cluster bombs and rockets with cluster munitions to our guys for answers. It remains only to believe in our guys and our pilots."

Kirby described the current level of fighting as “pretty vicious,” and said Ukraine admits its counteroffensive is “not going as far or as fast on a daily basis as they would like.”

The “best” implementation of thermobaric weaponry has already been extensively used. The TOS-1 is almost ideal, as its rockets can produce a dispersed “field” of thermobaric detonations.

The only problem with the TOS-1 is short range.

I guess the Russians can fit their Uragan rocket system ammo with thermobaric warheads. It’s interesting that they haven’t bothered so far. Maybe they prefer cluster munitions.

Anything more would have to be air-delivered. But there are severe limits on that given the battlefield situation.

Do you moronic Ukrainian butt-smoochers not realize that Russia has the world's most powerful nuclear arsenal and ICBMs?

And you can bet their nuclear weapons are always in top shape, and not gone to pot like our weapons.

Pretty soon we're all going to be doing the Sarah Connor.

Under the circumstances advancing through an extremely sparse “minefield” of 1-5% bomblet duds is a very low risk compared to all other battlefield risks.

I’d say the odds are rather high for that. The thing these virtue signaling Ukrainian supporters don’t get is that Ukraine does not have a professional army, any real strategy and they have to rely on a bunch of paper pushing Pentagon generals that don’t know jack chit about how to win. It’s all about weapon systems. Weapon systems alone will not win a war when facing an opponent that can one up any weapon until they are fighting with rocks.

It’s really ludicrous to think that Biden and the likes of Linda Graham can offer any cogent strategy for winning any war, especially against Russia. Quite simply, they have no strategy. They don’t even have an end objective to form a strategy.

And Russia is going to go full Armageddon over some territory that it did not even pretend to control 18 months ago?

True that.
Most countries do not turn themselves into uninhabitable wastelands littered with weapons that will kill their own civilians for decades.
Which is why these weapons are banned by treaty signatories ( not us)

Examples Laos, Lebanon …sure there are more
Assuming they consider the civilians worth as much or more than the “soil”

That’s why the dud rate is measured, because they may not always be duds when some poor sucker meets one in the future,

Maybe you should stop listening or reading Western media propaganda and understand the root causes as to why Russia invaded in the first place. You might learn something.

They do have a professional army.
It’s been in continuous existence since its cadre split from the Soviet army thirty years ago. Its got all the usual army REMF stuff, arsenals, HR, logistics, ordnance, whatever.

It had a regular structure of brigades with garrison towns, etc. It had a conscription system and training system.

It’s expanded greatly, mostly in the “teeth” part, creating many additional brigades. It also called up a lot of militia units. Maybe that last part has misled you.

“Cluster munitions are so horrible that Ruzzia should immediately quit this war and go home so no more of their young men get killed or mutilated in Putin’s imperial war of conquest!”

OK, so you might also think, then, that women should no longer fight rapists and just lay back and enjoy it so no more women get hurt.

If this new Wunderwaffe is such a game-changer, why didn't the US supply it to the Ukies before?

Both sides have been using cluster munitions since the start.

The Ukrainians had a large inventory from the USSR days, which they ran thru. Then they got a bunch from the French who pretended to sign the treaty and destroy their stockpile.

Instead they gave their inventory to Ukraine, which has now run thru that lot.

US is giving cluster munitions because they don’t have anything else left. Just like they started giving them DU tank ammunition, because that is all used up as well.

The “root causes” are Putins spin on his casus belli. The Soviets and Nazis did that too.

The real root cause is simple landgrabbing. Putin wants Russia to expand to its historical limits. He justifies it with a version of 19th century pan-slavism.
