Store clerks have legal options when someone shoplifts. Teaming up to brutally beat the thief isn’t one of them. No wonder two 7-11 clerks in Stockton who battered a would-be shoplifter with a wooden rod are being investigated by police, as reported on TV news. Although brazen stealing is frustrating, costly and dangerous to store employees, confronting it with violence that far exceeds self-defense is not the answer.

If they didn’t kill him, then they didn’t go too far.
Wanna stop this crap? If it were up to me, he’d have more holes in him than God intended.
I agree, and it sounds like the employees have the receipts for their actions if the police station is across the street, the police have been called multiple times to no avail, and the perpetrator is suspected of having a gun.
They didn’t hit him enough times.
I want you for my Lawyer!
Yes, but. You must us proportional force and just like you can't shoot someone running away from you in the name of self-defense, as they are no longer a threat, you can't keep beating someone with “near deadly force” once they are no longer a threat.
While if I was on a jury, I would have no problem with what these employees did, I understand why their behavior horrified the member of the criminal justice system. Vigilante justice is not something prosecuting attorney's or elected officials want to happen as it is a threat to their power.
If you shoot someone in self defense you can keep shooting until they are no longer a threat, but not a moment longer, which ultimately is a judgment call a jury gets to make.
Coconspirators, they are.

What is wrong is that the editorial staff is insulated and does not have to deal with criminals like the one who robbed this store and threatened those clerks.
You are weak. When felons run away, they ARE a threat, later that day or night, tomorrow in a year from now. They deserve what they get in the way of a beating or shooting. If I were on a jury, I would keep my mouth shut all the way up to voting NOT guilty. Over and over and over. The police are LOANED the power they have, it is We the People who are ultimately responsible for stopping crime waves.
Well, the editorial staff needs replaced...
That was a customer recording from the customers' side of the counter, not the cashier.
“”””Laws need to be changed, to allow victims to stop thieves by any means necessary. Car, boats, womens honor, childrens innocence, money, jewelry or just piece of mind.””””
And that is why CA folks are moving to TX, because TX already has those laws in place.
It would be interesting to see the shoplifting statistics in CA vs TX
Yes, they went too far...
They left the perps still above ground temperature...
Another arm chair leftist communist commenting on the world.
Let’s say the thief had to appear in court...what would he get? Probably get let off & told not to do it again. Yes,he took a vicious beating, but did he learn his lesson. We’ll see. I think he should have had to go to court & then got something they don’t do here; a good caning. My thinking is that he would remember that beating awhile & it all would have been done according to the law if caning was legal here.
“Funny, l didn’t think they went far enough”
I agree, he said multiple times he was ‘bout to pull my strap’ which makes this armed robbery!
I was enjoying the @$$ whoopin’ so much I was counting out the lashes!
23 in all! Feel good video of the week!
If you shoot’em dead they will never rob or hurt anyone again!
Permanent solution to a permanent problem (there are always going to be criminals that need killing).
To quote Ferris Bueller, “You can never go too far.”
What do they mean this is not the answer? I don’t see them offering a better one. I’ll bet that dude and many others will think long and hard about stealing from that store again. Okay, okay, a .44 magnum would have been better.
I was pointing out that the victims of the crime [the two clerks] were being investigated by the police.
Not the perp - there's no word on the perp being investigated for THE THREE TIMES he robbed the same place within 24 hours.
see my post #82 for The Rest of the Story of official city of Stockton malfeasance.
Is he still breathing?
Then they didn’t go too far.
