Governor Ron DeSantis (R-FL) said on NBC’s “Today” that if the 2024 election is a referendum on former President Donald Trump’s legal cases, the Republican Party will lose.
DeSantis said, “If the election is a referendum on Joe Biden’s policies and the failures that we’ve seen, and we’re presenting a positive vision for the future, we will win the presidency and we will have a chance to turn the country around. If on the other hand, the election is not about January 20, 2025, but January 6, 2021, or what document was left by the toilet at Mar-a-Lago, if it’s a referendum on that, we are going to lose. That’s just the reality.”
Reporter Dasha Burns said, “But you know with Trump in the race that is largely what it is going to be about and not fighting against Joe Biden, you are fighting against Trump.”
DeSantis said, “That’s not a pathway for success for the Republican Party. I think a lot of our voters understand that.”
Burns asked, “Yes or no, did Donald Trump lose the 2020 election?”
DeSantis said, “Whoever puts their hand on the Bible on January 20 every four years is the winner.”
Burns said, “But respectfully, you did not clearly answer that question and if you can’t give a yes or no whether or not Trump lost–”
DeSantis said, “Of course he lost.”

DeSantis is sounding more and more like a democrat when it comes to Trump.
DeSantis is getting closer and closer to losing any kind of support from republicans for 2024, and perhaps even for 2028. He’s close to losing any kind of support I had for him, and I voted for him in 2018 and 2022.
Ron should give it up now, since he’s got no chance of getting the nomination, not with his anti-Trump attitude. DeSantis and Pence are not team players, and Reagan is rolling in his grave with these kind of republicans making things worse for the party. Trump is not doing the damage to republican chances; DeSantis and Pence are.
If he thinks he is going to run by the “rules” the Left follows now in elections, he is going to lose, documements by some Mar-a-Lago toilet or not.
And he seems just fine with denying anything untoward was done in the 2020 election.
He is trying to tread the line by saying “Oh, it didn’t happen in MY state” while completely ignoring it in the contested states where it DID happen.
I really dislike his Clintonesque triangulation on that with his equivalent of “It depends on what the meaning of “is” is...”
I’m really disturbed by what an awful campaign DeSantis is running. He really sucks at this. And not because of his attacks on Trump. Just overall.

Pa, GA, MI, WI, changed election laws outside the legislatures. Against the US Constitution. Especially PA did.
