In 1992, a Texas billionaire had had enough with both parties and decided to use his considerable fortune to run for president as an independent.
The billionaire part might have been unique, but the third party part wasn’t, every election cycle, there are third party candidates who manage to get their names on the ballot. Most don’t amount to anything and history quickly forgets them. But 1992 was different. H. Ross Perot was different.
Maybe Perot just came along 32 years too early.
Things are far from set for the 2024 election, but at this point, it sure looks like it’s shaping up to be a contest between the two least popular options — a repeat of 2020.

We already have our “Ross Perot” (Trump). They’re just continuing to whine that they still can’t get an establishment Republican thru the primary.
The Hill means that it wants someone to split the conservative/GOP vote. But what if that “Ross Perot” comes from the Left and splits their vote? Think they want that? The Hill would be in full on attack mode.

People didn’t realize how left-wing Perot was, they fell for his folksy act.
Perot simply gave himself a ‘gift’ in revenge to George Bush. He had zero interest in becoming President. He just wanted Bush to lose two or three million votes. All goes back to his employees held in a Iranian jail and Bush wasn’t going to provide CIA help.

These folks hated Perot. He tripped over his words and said “you people” instead of “your people” one time and you’d have thought the world ended.

He used to be a former staffer for the late Sen. Conrad Burns (R-Mont.). Another person who supports the Deep State.
When Perot ran EDS back in the 70s, he gave priority to returning Vietnam vets for jobs.

Perot never believed he could win - he loved the attention, and he hated GHWB.
Clinton was a Leftist, but he caused a lot less damage than Obama and Biden did.
And a major fact about Perot— his business holdings were largely in Texas— at an aviation service corridor at a major airport. Bush was governor and denied him all kinds of latitude on regulations and fees for the facilities, that Perot wanted waived... just for him. All others with similar properties had to pay the freight and, Bushes did not cut him any gimmee deal. Perot was a small banty rooster type of “tough guy” with mil-industrial money making as his chief source.
He stated he was running 3rd party to “energize the democrat party”... and he siphoned votes from GHWB such that we got Billy Cokenose Clinton and his hag wife and all of their crap. Energized. What a fraud Perot was.
His principal business was Electronic Data Systems (connected to the precursor of Dominion) and before that a freaking salesman for IBM! Had his a@@ kicked a few times. The Iranian hostage employees he got out could not have been helped by see eye ehhhh— not in Iran of those days after Jimmah Cahtah. Perot was a Texas clown in a clown show.
