In older times, it didn't matter if a woman preferred other women, she still needed a man to take care of her, and she would need to keep him sexually satisfied or he would walk away.
If she had affairs with other women on the side, it would be more acceptable to her man than if she had side affairs with other men. Especially if he got invited to occasional three-somes.
