Algona, Iowa, police officer Kevin Cram died Wednesday night after being shot as he tried to execute a warrant on 43-year-old Kyle Lou Ricke.
KTIV noted 33-year-old Cram was on patrol and knew a warrant was out for Ricke’s arrest. He learned the possible whereabouts of the wanted man and went to the location, “told Ricke he was going to be placed under arrest,” and Ricke responded by shooting Cram.

It’s always sad when a good person dies. I just want to know why was the warrant issued? For what charge? American government has become far too invasive and authoritarian in recent decades. Micormanaging society leads to things like this. A spontaneous reaction to being arrested doesn’t sound like first degree murder, unless this guy knew the cop was coming to arrest him.
He was charged with third-degree harassment after sending dozens of text messages and trying to call his ex multiple times within a two-hour span on Aug. 23, according to court documents.
An officer reportedly told Ricke not to contact the woman again or he’d be charged with harassment. The woman told police Ricke had sent her more text messages and emails just four days later.
Officers said Ricke admitted to contacting the woman.
He tried to execute an arrest warrant by himself without backup. I am sorry he lost his life but he used bad judgement. I mean it sounds like he went looking for this guy, not just a per chance traffic stop.
I thought the liberal wizards were going to start using social workers with social worker diplomas to handle these types of legal matters. They used that argument to justify defunding the police. This officer died needlessly. This wasn’t his job.
Now I am beginning to wonder if this cop was in some type of relationship with this gal and if he was, then it could have been some type of jealous retaliation by the shooter.
You may be on to something.
“An officer reportedly told Ricke not to contact the woman again or he’d be charged with harassment.”
Wonder if the “officer” was the same one that was shot?????
Talk about bad judgement this guy was looking at 48 hours in jail now he's looking at 48 years in prison if they don't put him to death.
Domestic disputes are one of the most dangerous situations for law enforcement officers.
It was essentially, a domestic case. These are absolutely the most unpredictable and dangerous calls for police to make. Officers should always have armed backup on such calls. And they should never attempt to make arrests without that backup.
I am sorry he lost his life, but he used bad judgement.
This!
Should be a feature in police training. Don't be "that guy".
Not in Iowa. No state death penalty since 1965.
We really don’t know what went down do we. Maybe the cop threatened to kill him and he felt his life was in danger. I mean the cop went looking for this guy on purpose over a harassment charge over a woman. Sometimes cops think and act with their little head also.
I think allen jackson said it best, and this being a small midwestern town of about 5000 people I would almost bet it applies.
Everywhere you look, you can write a book
On the trouble with a woman and a man
But you can not impose, you can’t stick your nose
Into something that you don’t understand
Still you wonder
Who’s cheatin’ who? Who’s being true?
And who don’t even care anymore?
It makes you wonder
Who’s doing right with someone tonight?
And who’s car is parked next door?
Now I can't get that tune out of my head.
Why havent the Republicans in Iowa restored the death penalty?
Maybe it makes the evangelicals upset?
The 2020 BLM/Antifa insurrection started the open season on cops.
Jerry Hayes wrote it and Charly McLain recorded it back in the 70s. I’m full ou useless knowledge. ;^)
Last man executed was Victor Feguer. He murdered our family Dr., Edward Bartels. That’s when we lived in Dubuque, Iowa.
