Had to click on the site of the odious NPR because I wanted to know the age of the castle. It was built in the Middle Ages.

Constantine the Great ruled, of course, in the 4th century AD, so perhaps, as someone suggested upthread, a coin collector lived in the castle. Or perhaps the coins were used for payment since gold in any form would be accepted for tender.

Coins travel? ABSOLUTELY! On the History Channel series Curse of Oak Island, they found a Chinese coin with a square hole in it, hundreds of years old. Oak Island is in Nova Scotia.

Years ago I paid big $$$ for some ancient Roman coins that had a date of 100 BC. Probably worth a lot more today.

I got one of those back in the 1960's. It's real beat up, considering the age. Got it for free at a coin show. Could probably trade it for a fake silver eagle.

I had high hopes for the brothers. I was impressed that they were able to secure support for an extended project to include actual science. The roads were quite intriguing.

But dramatizing EVERY DAMNED FIND was wearing on me and I stopped watching regularly sometime after they found that coin.

It was getting to be just too much...

Admittedly, so am I (I did write ‘regularly’).

On occasion I do go down a bunny hole and watch an entire season.

Though I’m growing tired of their hyping every damned button, etc when they have nothing to do with the actual treasure hunt itself.
