F-35 pilot ejected from $100M jet over South Carolina due to ‘bad weather’ as experts reveal why plane couldn’t be tracked

The pilot who ejected from a $100 million F-35 fighter jet claimed to have lost the plane in the weather — and likely bailed out before he could activate its tracking system, sources and experts said.

“He’s unsure of where his plane crashed, said he just lost it in the weather,” a voice can be heard saying of the pilot on a Charleston County Emergency Medical Services call posted Tuesday by a meteorologist.

The unidentified pilot landed in a North Charleston residential neighborhood and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.

He has since been discharged.

Military officials have not yet released a specific reason for the pilot’s hasty exit, only referring to the incident as stemming from a “malfunction.”

“You’re not even getting the branch of service right. It was a USMC aircraft. If you can’t get that basic fact right, maybe you shouldn’t comment.”

La di da.

There was nothing in the Post story that identified the branch as USMC, or the aircraft as F35B.

“I suspect this is a diversity pilot.”

High performance plane, low performance pilot.

“But military officials initially said the transponder did not appear to be working but were unsure why.”

I’m one of the people on here who constantly returns to the theme of excess complexity, elite incompetence and decay, and yet I am still constantly amazed by it all.

It is known that the composite structure of the F35 does not handle lightning well.

See: "Air Force F-35 Lightning IIs Still Can’t Fly Within 25 Miles Of ... Lightning

And: "F-35: despite improvements, Lightnig II still can’t fly in storms

In early 2022 (before those two articles were published), the Air Force said that upgrades were coming to the aircraft’s fuel system to allow operation near lightning.

There's speculation that lightning brought this plane down, hence the "mishap" story.

I’ve tried some of those tips.

In absence of the black tape, just hold your thumb over the red light.

Works good……. Until the engine blows

I thought that too for a second - pretty sure they are saying that he was discharged from the hospital.

It is a stealth plane, right?

Pilot does not even know where it is, when it is between his legs.

The helmet on an F-35 is beyond complex. It has a heads up display feature that lets you seem to be able to see 360 degrees and through the airplane by cameras. The helmet training is the most complex adjustment in flying the F-35.

I bet this pilot lost their ability to properly use the helmet due to inexperience.

Do the nitrogen fuel tank systems exist on the older aluminum planes, or just the composite ones like the F35?

Not widely known is the F-35 is full of computers and electronics VERY VULNERABLE to lightning strikes which disable the planes controls.

This recent “mishap” was probably a loss of aircraft control due to lightning disabling the computers that keep the aircraft flying.

The pilot must eject if the airplane becomes uncontrollable.

This is because the aircraft is not made of traditional metals as were past fighter jets. It is made of composite materials. Those materials make the aircraft so stealthy, our own military cannot track it.

The Pentagon has ordered F-35’s not be operated around thunderstorms which, of course, are common throughout the world.

This “advanced” fighter jet can only fight a war in good weather.

This gives you a good idea how unprepared the “modern” U.S. military is to fight a war.

The U.S. military has become laughable and cannot protect the nation. What a disgrace.

The damn thing was hacked. Ejected the pilot and the hacker or the anti-hacking devices brought that plane down.

I was commuting by motorcycle, and thought “How is that spider staying on my face shield?”. I stopped the bike and got the helmet off in record time.
