Lake records trial begins with focus on voter privacy over signatures of ballot affidavit envelopes

Former GOP Arizona gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake’s public records trial against Maricopa County over ballot affidavit envelopes has begun with a focus on voter privacy and will continue next week.

On Thursday, Lake was in the courtroom for her two-day trial before Judge John Hannah of the Superior Court of Arizona, Maricopa County, regarding a public records request Lake filed under Arizona's Public Records law.

In March, Lake submitted a public records request of ballot affidavit envelopes from the 2022 general election, but the Maricopa County’s Recorders Office denied her request in April.

Lake wants to review the envelopes, which voters write their signatures on when casting mail-in ballots, to determine if the signatures match voters’ signatures that are on file with the county.

Lake's attorney, Bryan Blehm argued in his opening statement on Thursday that the envelope “signatures are made public, your honor, by the person who signed them and dropped them into the mail. They’re dropped into the public stream of commerce and hence, we argue, that the state cannot overcome its interests of the state argument because the individuals who signed these ballot affidavit envelopes, your honor, have waived any right to confidentiality by making those signatures public.”

She appealed the rejection of her lawsuit by U.S. District Court Judge John Tuchi in August 2022, who said it had "conjectural allegations of potential injuries," according to AZ Central. It is unclear when a decision in the Ninth Circuit appellate case will be delivered.

Lake's public Records trial will resume on Monday at 9 a.m. Mountain Standard Time, or noon Eastern Daylight Time. Hannah said that the court will reconvene with hearing Maricopa County’s witnesses and closing arguments from both sides.

Lake has very little chance of winning on this issue simply because the deck is stacked against her. But, I admire her tenacity in at least making the corruption part of the public record.

Until they say there are actual ballots that PROVE that Lake won, the truth is....she lost...and the word tenacity translates to....”she’s a pain in the butt”. She’s like the white girl at the prom who lost to the other white girl.

Since when does it ever get to the point where proof and truth come into play? Our justice system no longer is interested in justice.

How do you pack so much redundancy into so few words?

Whether or not she won at this point is impossible to tell because of all the irregularities during the voting process and the counting process. Perhaps she lost, but I want to know what happened. Were I her, I too would want to know. She seems to have proof of well over 20000 votes that should not have been counted that were counted and perhaps that is the tip of the iceberg. She lost in the official count by less than that. I would be making noise too.

While it is easy to call her names and make fun of her, if you were the one who lost a close and shady election you would be speaking out of the other side of your mouth.

She can’t have proof...because she and her team have never seen the ballots.

Hannah is a Dem doof from California who has gone against Kari in the previous rulings out of his court.

He’s not the brightest bulb in the room. Couldn’t get into law school in California so he had to take up space in Tucson at the U of A.

So he knows who he works for. Don’t expect to see any pro-Lake ruling outta this guy.

The only way to win in future elections in a rigged system. is to play the same game in heavily favored conservative red districts. Even if the number of ballots equates to double the number of registered voters.

Short of that in a rigged system without recourse, surrenders a win to those who are guilty of rigging the election.

They didn’t follow election law in Maricopa county.
They counted ballots in 2020 and 2024 without signatures matching.
Now they say you can’t really check because it might be a violation of privacy of the voter.

The reality is, they are saying that election law breaking has no consequences, and that they aren’t going to allow anyone to audit what’s going on for privacy reasons. You’re saying that there isn’t ‘proof’ Lake won. I agree, it’s a dirty unverifiable election with obvious government based fraud, and nobody can say Lake won. I use the same logic for the democrats, or worse, because they are the ones responsible for the fraud, and now nobody can prove they won a dirty election.

This same issue will play out across the United States everywhere Democrats have power or sympathizers willing to assist. Everyone can vote, but since it’s dirty, your vote doesn’t matter. Only ballots matter.

It’s a time bomb waiting to explode. Sooner or later everyone will blame the Democrats for any national ills, depression, war, economic difficulties, pensioners going hungry, Ect. They won’t be able to vote out of the issues because of the fraud. Then it will be meltdown.

I live in Maricopa County. It was fraud right in our faces. Not
just the Governors race but also the Attorney General,
Secretary of State, and U.S. Senate.

A lot of cartel money and other shenanigans.

My understanting is that she doesn’t want to see the ballots themselves, so there is no actual privacy issue. They just want to examine the envelopes the ballots were mailed in to see if the signatures match the registration cards. Newsflash, they won’t, or they’ve already been destroyed. This will prove even more fraudulent ballots were accepted.

You can’t get proof until someone lets you examine the evidence. That’s what has been being blocked since the beginning.

And could you be any more racist/sexist?

Love,
O2

You can’t do it “selectively”...you have to look at every single signature. Sexist?? Hardly..

There were numerous ballot custody issues that broke the law.
from 60% of the voting machines in Republican precincts in Maricopa County that were subject to “errors” on Election Day to on-site ballot tabulators either were intentionally tinkered with or infected with malware to outsourcing the signature verification process. Katie Hobbes wouldn’t look like a scared teenager running away from all election questions if she truly believed that she won a fair victory. The 2022 election was stolen from her via mass voter fraud.

The ballots are not signed and are separated from the envelopes in any case so she obviously is not asking for that.
Why would a privacy exception be applicable in this case ? AZ law states ballot envelopes are legal affidavits swearing that the affiant is telling the truth and legal affidavits are used as evidence in a court of law. People knowingly sign these understanding they are doing so under penalty of perjury.
