The United States sent warships and fighter jets to support Israel on Sunday night in a show of strength against Hamas.
Joe Biden deployed the US Navy’s most advanced aircraft carrier, six other ships and a number of advanced jets to the Eastern Mediterranean, as Israel’s allies, including the UK, rallied to its defence.
The move raises tensions in the region, with Iranian intelligence officials accused of planning Hamas’s surprise terror attack on Israel that saw 700 killed and more than 100 taken hostage.
Around 250 are feared to have been massacred at a rave in the desert in the south of the country attended by Israelis and foreigners.
In a televised address from the White House, Mr Biden said: “In my administration, support for Israel’s security is rock solid and unwavering
“We’ll make sure that they have the help their citizens need and they can continue to defend themselves.”
UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak condemned the attacks as an “act of terror” as he offered British intelligence to help Israel identify Hamas targets.
The Prime Minister told Benjamin Netanyahu that the UK was ready to provide “diplomatic or security support” as he held a call with Germany, France and the US on Sunday to coordinate their response.

What a difference a week makes.
Just eight days ago, National Security Adviser Jake Sullivan, speaking at The Atlantic Festival, rattled off a long list of positive developments in the Middle East, developments that were allowing the Biden administration to focus on other regions and other problems. A truce was holding in Yemen. Iranian attacks against U.S. forces had stopped. America’s presence in Iraq was “stable.” The good news crescendo-ed with this statement: “The Middle East region is quieter today than it has been in two decades.”
One week later, a shocking, multifront attack launched by the Iranian-supported Hamas against Israel has turned the Middle East into a maelstrom. The assault, almost 50 years to the day after the surprise Arab attack on Israel that marked the opening of the Yom Kippur War, could represent a paradigm-shifting moment as big as 9/11. So far, more than 100 Israelis are confirmed dead and many hundreds more gravely injured in a coordinated attack by Hamas terrorists who infiltrated by land, sea, and air.
A thousand tragedies will unfold—at the moment, an unknown number of Israeli civilians and soldiers might be held hostage in Gaza. As of this writing, nearly 200 are reported dead in Israeli reprisal raids. The Israeli army has activated at least 100,000 reservists, and a full-scale ground invasion of Gaza is plausible, if not probable.
Saudi Arabia and Israel were in talks about normalizing their relationship. The Iranian and terrorist response is not surprising although the extremity is.
It’s amazing how it got timed though. The Iranians get to throw a wrench in ongoing talks (the extremity of the attack guarantees that Israel’s response will be brutal and that will take the Saudi’s out of talks for a long time). OTOH, they waited until Biden had transferred 6 billion to Iran and released 65 million to Hamas. It looks like they have planned this for a long time but were just waiting to soak some more cash out of Biden.

Did you not read the article? The ships are already in the Central Mediterranean, and have been, coordinating with Italy. They are pretty much half way between Gibraltar in the west and Gaza in the east (or, about 1,000 miles); roughly, about a day and a half away.

No, after a show of contained retribution, this will end up a continuation of western policies of half-measures, accommodation, and unfettered transfer of psycho-people to the formerly civilized world.
What’s the purpose of the fighter jets?
Neither Hamas nor Hezbollah has an Air Force.
Unless the US Embassy is attacked there is no need for F18 or F35 bombing runs.

Black Sea, Baltic Sea, Mediterranean, Persian Gulf, South China Sea, how many active carrier battle groups do we have? What has already been pi$$ed away on Uke corruption would have floated four or five new carrier battle groups.
Well, to support somebody. We will know more if/when naval gunfire and AC attack one side or the other. My bet is on the Party using the navy to try to force some sort of Truce Line to stop the fighting and confirms the Barbarians in their gains.
