~The FReeper Canteen Presents~

Road Trip: United States Coast Guard Aviation Training Center, Alabama

ALUSCGaviationtrain3

US Coast Guard Aviation Training Center is an air base of the United States Coast Guard located at Mobile, Alabama, where it shares an airfield with the Mobile Regional Airport. The Alabama Army National Guard's 1st Battalion, 131st Aviation Regiment's "B" Company is also located at the airfield. The base is also home to the Coast Guard National Strike Force's Gulf Strike Team.

ALUSCGaviationtrain6

The Aviation Training Center is a multi-mission unit for the Coast Guard's aviation and capabilities development center. Training is conducted to qualify pilots in the MH-60 Jayhawk, MH-65 Dolphin, and HC-144 Ocean Sentry. All pilots initially train at ATC, and return once a year for a one-week proficiency course in their assigned airframes. Officer cadets from the United States Coast Guard Academy who are pursuing aviation careers also train at ATC.

ALUSCGaviationtrain5

Serving within the Coast Guard's Force Readiness Command's Training Division (FC-T), the center is responsible for certifying all Coast Guard pilots are using their equipment and tactics to meet all mission requirements. The operations department flies the HC-144A Ocean Sentry, which is a segment within the ATC command that conducts search and rescue, homeland security, and environmental protection missions.

The operations department operates under the tactical control of the Eighth Coast Guard District and has an area of responsibility that extends from the Louisiana/Texas border to the eastern edge of the Florida panhandle.

ALUSCGaviationtrain4

The USCG National Strike Force's Gulf Strike Team is also located at the Aviation Training Center. This specially trained unit was created in 1973 as a result of the Federal Water Pollution Control Act of 1972, and is tasked with responding to natural and man-made pollution and hazard incidents such as oil discharge, hazardous materials released, weapons of mass destruction, and vessel salvage operations.

The Gulf Strike team can deploy anywhere across the globe, but their primary area of responsibility includes the Coast Guard's 7th District (except Puerto Rico and the United States Virgin Islands), the southern portion of the 8th District, parts of the 5th District, Central and South America, and the Caribbean. The GST also covers the Environmental Protection Agency’s 4th & 6th Districts.

Our Anchor of Hope

Bible in a Year:

We have this hope as an anchor for the soul, firm and secure.

Hebrews 6:19

I held up a picture of people sleeping under pieces of cardboard in a dim alley. “What do they need?” I asked my sixth grade Sunday school class. “Food,” someone said. “Money,” said another. “A safe place,” a boy said thoughtfully. Then one girl spoke up: “Hope.”

“Hope is expecting good things to happen,” she explained. I found it interesting that she talked about “expecting” good things when, due to challenges, it can be easy not to expect good things in life. The Bible nevertheless speaks of hope in a way that agrees with my student. If “faith is confidence in what we hope for” (Hebrews 11:1), we who have faith in Jesus can expect good things to happen.

What is this ultimate good that believers in Christ can hope for with confidence?—“the promise of entering his rest” (4:1). For believers, God’s rest includes His peace, confidence of salvation, reliance on His strength, and assurance of a future heavenly home. The guarantee of God and the salvation Jesus offers is why hope can be our anchor, holding us fast in times of need (6:18–20). The world needs hope, indeed: God’s true and certain assurance that throughout good and bad times, He’ll have the final say and won’t fail us. When we trust in Him, we know that He’ll make all things right for us in His time. .

Reflect & Pray

How does the Bible encourage and give you hope and confidence? What are some things you can thank God for?

Dear God, my hope in You is firm and secure, not because my faith is strong, but because You’re faithful to do as You’ve promised.

Jimmy Stewart - The Soldier’s Biography And The Story Of His Record Breaker P-51 “Thunderbird”

James “Jimmy” Stewart won the Academy Award for Best Actor for The Philadelphia Story also starring Cary Grant and Katharine Hepburn in 1940. Stewart was riding high and MGM was expecting big things from him. What he chose to do next was bigger than anyone could have imagined. Like his ancestors before him, Stewart enlisted in the United States Army to the dismay of MGM.

Hey there, radu!

I sure do feel better. And it was a gorgeous day here today. I had the doors open till it got dark, but it’s still quite lovely outside. I sat out for a while, but got restless and came back in. LOL!

How was your day? Did you get to chill after your busy weekend?

Could you maybe share a little of that nice weather with us? LOL Today was a repeat of yesterday though the wind didn’t blow as hard. An ugly, dreary, damp, cold day.

I chilled all day yesterday. Today was time to get a few things done ..... store run, a little housework. Fun stuff. LOL

I’d be more than happy to switch with you. I’d love a good “dreary” rainy day. Or was it just damp because of the humidity?

Ugh. All that fun stuff. We all have THAT kind of stuff, huh. I have to go to the dentist again tomorrow. I’ll trade stuff with ya too. LOL!

It was damp due to misty drizzle on and off all day. There’s enough water in the bottom of the rain gauge to maybe make two raindrops-worth. LOL It was 52 when I went to the store so not exactly a windows-open day like you had. Maybe this mess will move out tomorrow; maybe not. At least it’s supposed to move out by Wednesday and give us some sunshine for a day. Decent chances for rain Thursday and Friday and we do need it.

I’ll stick with housework and let you keep the dentist appointment. LOL

Well, I’m not happy that after tomorrow, it will be in the high 80s for the next 5 days. It just never ends! I guess I can be thankful that at least the nights will still be cool...in the 50s. That’s something!

Did Dusty ever get those soybeans harvested? I can’t remember when they’re supposed to be mature.

Yikes! You’d said the temp would be up by Wednesday but not how long it would stay up. That’s too hot for October. Ugh! The night time temps sound nice, at least.

They SAY our highs will be in the mid 60s - low 70s range for the next week and lows will be 40s or 50s. That’s not too bad.

The beans aren’t ready to harvest yet but it won’t be too long. He didn’t plant them til late June. The winds the past three days have blown most of the dead leaves off now but some remain.

I feel bad for the guy across the road. His corn has been ready but I have a feeling he isn’t able to rent the equipment he needs. It could be tied up by others who also rent it. I’m not in any hurry to deal with the dust for three days but I hope he can get out there SOON, before all the kernels drop off the ears.
