Native American tribe is set to start hunting WHALES off Washington coast as federal agency prepares to issue new permit to let them slaughter the sea mammals

A Native American tribe in Washington state has been allowed to once again hunt gray whales - following a decades-long effort to resume the ancient practice.

The tradition has existed for more than 2,000 years, though the last time the tribe was able to hunt a member of the species was in 1999.

That hunt was allowed after a more than 70 year-stop during a rebound in the gray whale population, and saw Makah whalers successfully hunt a gray whale in the waters off the Olympic Peninsula.

This will make PETA angry. Who will the left appease? The oppressed Native Americans, or the animal rights activists?

Now! They just have to have a Tribal Member by Investment Program to open the door to participation by others.

This has been an ongoing commercial adventure strictly forbidden by the 1855 Treaty of Neah Bay. But they have been allowed to continue for decades.

The carcass is sold to the Japanese for upward of $1,000,000, all of which goes to the ruling families - the actual hunters are from those families.

Ordinary Makah are keep in drugs and booze with just enough tribal money from the tribe to keep them happy, along with their government forest logging checks, their halibut and salmon checks. They usually keep the money in cash dressers, not banks. Not uncommon to have one of them pull out a drawer stuffed with $100 bills.

Are they going to use 1,000 year old hunting technology?

I hope the whale smashes their hunting boat and drowns the entire murderous crew.

Are they going to hunt them from birch bark canoes using flint-tipped spears?

A friend of mine was in Alaska....There were checks from the government piled up in every home. Every home also had a new jeep and snow vehicles.

Once walked through the giant Tsukiji fish market in Tokyo. One of the areas contained big containers of freshly butchered whale meat. Another time I was served some fried in a tempura restaurant. Have to say, I had some guilt pangs but it was one of the most delicious things I’ve ever eaten.

Well this corrupt government allows whale killing wind turbines to be installed in the ocean so why wouldn’t they allow a needless and pointless killing of these majestic mammals?

The rat party has devolved into the anti-free speech, anti-freedom, anti-animal, pro-murder, pro-abortion, anti-energy, globalist-supporting vermin that is so much like themselves in many ways.

The afterlife will not be kind to their souls for eternity. The lucky ones will be allowed to return as maggots or earthworms over and over and over.

If the Makah’s really cared about the environment, and all the fallacies attributed to being a member of a Tribe, they would clean up their Reservation and develop a market for the invading ecosystem destroying California Sea Lions that are hugely responsible, right behind the State and Federal Fish managers of massively depleting Salmon runs and other valuable fish species.

I live close to the Makah Reservation, one of the most beautiful places in America until you get into the area where the Indians live. Want to see what the term used by all dimocRAT’s “OUR DEMOCRACY” would look like if they got total power? Go drive through a Western Indian Reservation is all there to see.

I went out there the last time the Makah’s did a ceremonial Whale Hunt. While there were traditional Cedar Log Canoes there were also twin screwed fishing boats and instead of harpooning the Whale, they shot it with a .50 caliber Barrett Carbine.

The government needs to let the Indians go.

People in the Puget Sound are noticing an increase of Orca Whales. These whales are eating salmon which would impact salmon fishing. To stay healthy, an adult orca must eat some 325 pounds of fish a day—about 10 king salmon. The Indian tribes net salmon in the rivers which are a big part of their income and food. That has become a dilemma. Scientist are saying that the salmon are on such a decline that in order to save the whales, all salmon fishing has to stop.

as long as they are hunting in canoes with wooden spears like their ancient ancestors.

Im cool with it. and no life preservers, and seal skin coats.

More humane than a traumatic death by spearing.

Are they going to hunt them from birch bark canoes using flint-tipped spears?

yes, they are using traditional Native hunting methods, that's the whole point

and they only take 1 whale per year

but on the NW Coast they use large dugout canoes, made from giant cedars, holding 6-10 hunters

contrast that with the industrial-harvesting the Japanese continue do, claiming "research"

(*btw, the Makah are the only tribe in the lower 48 to have whale-hunting permissions written into their treaty with the US Gov't. (Treaty of Neah Bay, 1855))
