Senate Republican says US needs to accept Ukraine will ‘cede some territory’ to Russia
The Hill via Yahoo ^ | December 10th, 2023 | Lauren Sforza

Sen. J.D. Vance (R-Ohio) said Sunday that the United States needs to accept that Ukraine will likely need to “cede some territory” to Russia to end the fighting.

Vance told CNN’s Jake Tapper on “State of the Union” that he is opposed to sending more aid to Ukraine because he does not believe the country will ever be able to overpower Russia. He questioned why sending billions in aid to Ukraine is going to help the country at this point in its war against Russia since previous aid has yet to end the war.

“What’s in America’s best interest is to accept Ukraine is going to have to cede some territory to the Russians and we need to bring this war to a close,” Vance said. “But when I think about the great human tragedy here, hundreds of thousands of Eastern Europeans innocent have been killed in this conflict, the thing that’s in our interest and in theirs is to stop the killing.”

...snip...

“The idea that Ukraine was going to throw Russia back to the 1991 border was preposterous, nobody actually believed it.”

“So what we’re saying to the president and really to the entire world is you need to articulate what the ambition is, what is $61 billion going to accomplish that $100 billion hasn’t,” he added.

Sounds like a 70’s leftist Democrat.

Led to disaster then. Will lead to disaster again.

“We haven’t won the war yet so why spend more money on it”?

Apply that logic to Hitler (they did howd that turn out)

Yes - probably along the Dnieper River. And I wouldn’t be surprised if that is all that Putin wants, along with other NATO concessions concerning Russian borders and removal of sanctions and other barriers. They really need Trump to work out a deal.

No more yachts for Tiny Zelensky would be a good start, along with less money going to foreigners and their pensions as our own country is collapsing.

I think Ukes should fight to the last man, woman, and child. Once that happens war will be over for the Ukes. If it goes the other way, I’m fine with that, too. Not my circus, not my monkeys. Let the Slavs fight it out.

“The idea that Ukraine was going to throw Russia back to the 1991 border was preposterous, nobody actually believed it.”

That is basically the point here. Neither side is going to win an absolute victory, so there will be a negotiated settlement. It would be best if Russia gave up some of the conquered lands and if other parts were demilitarized, but this is going to end at some point, and it won't end in total victory or even in a return to the status quo.

"What does Ukraine get in return?"

Hopefully a refund of all Biden Brand bribes, and an official apology letter for creating the war climate for profit.

“Corpses and Kickbacks”

That’s what all the spending on Ukraine by our political leaders accomplished.

Just like we serfs have gotten used to seeing our country ceded to migrant communist vermin flooding over the former borders...

From the Uke friendly, no territorial loss, Zelensky negotiated and Uniparty DC quashed March of ‘22 settlement to unconditional surrender. Thank you, globohomo/neocon alliance.

But no peace and security?

Then Ukraine doesn’t really have any incentive to stop fighting, do they?

Lines are arbitrary but what is the lesson? That aggression pays.

Will we put American troops on whatever border is decided upon, also other NATO countries, signalling to Putin that the next invasion means an actual war with the west, not merely a proxy war? If not, the lesson learned by Putin is if at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.

Appeasement didn’t work with Iran. Unfreezing $6 billion resulted in Iran’s proxies in Gaza, Iraq, and Yemen going on the warpath, not only against Israel, but against us.

Appeasement didn’t work with Venezuela. Lifting sanctions on that country resulting in their massing troops on the border of Guyana.

I could, of course, go back in time, but the lesson is obvious: appeasement is taken as a sign of weakness, and results in more war.

It’s because of American weakness that the world is in flames, not because of American strength. Trump reduced the number of wars we were in, with peace through strength. Biden has jacked the number of wars we are in, with appeasement.

The lion will lie down with the lamb when we’re the lion.

Another war in 10 years.

Russia already agreed by treaty to borders with Ukraine, and shouldn’t be allowed to overcome the treaty by aggression. Or they will do it again with the new treaty as soon as they find it convenient.
