A new Florida law that requires small-town officials to disclose their financial information has sparked a wave of resignations from small-town governments.

The new law is called Form 6, and it's the top issue for many small-town governments across the state.

St. Pete Beach was one of the latest cities to see a mass resignation when four out of the five city council members decided to quit their jobs this week instead of complying with the new disclosure rules.

According to St. Pete Beach Vice Mayor Mark Grill, the resignations shouldn't come as a surprise to state officials. Grill said the potential for mass resignations was brought up to state officials in August. They estimated upwards of 40 percent of small-town local leaders could be lost because of the new disclosure requirements.

New Florida laws force elected officials to disclose all financial activity before 01/01/24...Looking like half(just a guess) elected officials at a state county level are leaving.

“Sounds like half the elected officials in the State are on the Take and don’t want it found out.”

Absolutely! This should be a universal law!

As an average citizen, I wouldn’t want to disclose my finances either — particularly if I’m doing a small city job that pays virtually nothing.

Elected officials in my town aren’t paid. Impose onerous and intrusive reporting requirements on them and they’ll walk away from the job.

Exactly. Next comes all financial transactions by all non-officials. I swear people are so stupid. They just give the farm away... to our worst enemies.

This is why good people want nothing to do with public service these days.

Condo associations and small city government corruption is the training grounds for large scale, professional corruption.

Government officials demand people and businesses disclose everything, but hate it when they have to disclose everything.

Likely a lot of them are.

But maybe a lot don’t want to deal with the hassle.

What information does Form 6 require? Is it like a mortgage application for which you have to provide information on things you never heard of?

And if you provide the information as honestly as you can, can you still get “Trumped” like New York is doing to a certain high profile figure?

I don’t think it’s that cut and dry. They’re asking for a lot of information - if I own 15% of a strip mall as a silent partner, they’re asking me to disclose my interest (which is fair) as well as the names of the tenants who provide 10% or more of the business income. I get the transparency, but that’s a lot of leg work and accounting for a job that pays 12,600 a year (I used Boca Raton as an example) for part-time work.

While I am sure that there are plenty of people who have “something to hide”, there are a lot of folks who think it’s just not worth it.

Locally, our newly elected Democrat mayor is already awarding lucrative, no bid contracts to campaign supporters. Despite being contrary to law and precedent.
It starts at the bottom. I would support more financial privacy for elected officials if were more difficult for them to abuse the public treasury. But laws seldom seem to apply to Democrats and condo nazis.

And, bad people(the Left) will lie knowing nothing will be done about it.

Take a look at the instructions - it’s a fair amount of work to fill this out honestly.

Surprised an injection by courts hasn’t been ask for. I believe we’re about to lose lots of elected officials in small towns.
