The Church’s new LGBT edict is confusing and ill-timed
NY Post ^ | 23 December A.D. 2023 | Mark Bauerlein

Posted on 12/23/2023 8:20:12 AM PST by lightman

Pope Francis rattled Catholics yet again this week with the announcement that the Church will now bless people in same-sex relationships.

...

The missive authorizes priests to bless people in same-sex relationships as long as the blessing doesn’t appear to legitimize same-sex marriage, which the Church continues to oppose.

And there’s the rub: what does that new blessing really do?

How is it supposed to work?

What does it mean?

...

Priests can now bless same-sex couples, but not their actual relationships?

What’s the difference – and why the distinction?

There are more obscurities, enough to conclude that ambiguity has been purposely built into the new policy.

...

This pattern of half-baked logic has become a speciality of sorts for Francis, who’s displayed a canny talent for throwing Catholics off balance ever since he rose to the Chair.

In 2013, for instance, the newly-installed Pope startlingly stated that God “has redeemed all of us, all of us, with the Blood of Christ . . . Even the atheists. Everyone!”

The outburst left Catholics scratching their heads over the meaning of redemption and the value of observance if nonbelievers are also entitled to their benefits.

Three years later Francis confusingly weighed in on divorce, telling Catholics to “accompany” people who have divorced and remarried (a Catholic sin),.. never clarifying what “accompany” actually means.

Affirm them in their choices — or send them to confess their sins?

Take your pick.

The slippery rhetoric led the U.S. Bishop’s onetime head of doctrine to accuse the Pope of “intentional lack of clarity” and “chronic confusion.”

Declarations from the Vatican aren’t supposed to work this way.

Announcements should clarify, not confound — and this one has certainly confounded.

...

The world in 2023 is baffling and dispiriting. We need church clarity now more than ever.

There’s a big difference between ‘forgiving’ and ‘acceptance’... All of us are sinners and all need to repent and ask for forgiveness... But that’s a whole lot different than say acceptance and blessings for serial killers who don’t think they’ve done anything wrong, Repentance is part of the deal.. a desire to change and grow is part of the deal. Getting a blanket ‘blessing’ is not ...

The secular leaning NP Post can’t bring itself to call the edict morally wrong and degenerate even in non-Western cultures and communist countries.

Try actually reading the letter...that is exactly what the Pope is saying only much more definitely than you put it.

” Though not a Catholic, I heard this also well explicated while listening to a EWTN program the other day.

The priest was quite precise that the confusion is in part media-driven, in hopes of driving Catholics towards the “orthodoxy” of the very political LGBTQ+ movement.”

You are absolutely right although the leftist media attacks God’s Church at any excuse...there are a few leftist priests/bishops who are embracing the exaggerated (and wrong) interpretation of the letter.

By the way, I converted about six years ago. Keep watching EWTN. Also look on YouTube and watch Bishop Barons videos on theology. God pulls us to Him and the Catholic Church is the original church that Jesus Christ created and continues to breathe life into today and forever.

He hasn’t stated it, but I’m pretty sure he detests anything and everything MAGA.

I believe you're right... but I thought this 'Pope' had condemned MAGA... Oh well, if he does we should wear his hate as a badge of honor.

It’s just step 1. By step 3, the pedophile flag will be flying proudly above every Catholic Church.

Over the past three decades, I have come to consider ‘anything’ that the Marxist left hates and that I value, trust in or believe in as a “badge of honor”.

“It’s just step 1. By step 3, the pedophile flag will be flying proudly above every Catholic Church.”

I hope not, but... considering the Church’s covering for the pedo priests over the past several decades... and considering the commie pope’s penchant for allow deviants to be “blessed” by the Church, it’s looking more and more likely that will be the case.

We need church clarity now more than ever.

There is plenty of clarity, staring us right in the face.

Isaiah 30:1
Woe to the rebellious children, saith the LORD, that take counsel, but not of me; and that cover with a covering, but not of my spirit, that they may add sin to sin:

Though not a Catholic, I heard this also well explicated while listening to a EWTN program the other day.

No, it was not well explained by the priest who is called Mitch Pacwa (normally very good). Teresa Tomeo interviewed someone different who also tried to explain it away and she asked the $ question, something like "if giving anyone a blessing was already permitted, why did the Pope go to the trouble to call it out and authorize it for homosexual couples ?"

There is no good explanation.

The implication that Jesus and the writers of New Testament did not speak clearly on this topic is unsupportable.
What the Bible says about fornication, immorality and sexual relations is not subject to papal edicts.

Oh boy, I see the FR anti-Catholic bigots are out in-force on this one. I'm intrigued by the ones that can't differentiate between a horrible Pope and the Catholic Church. One wonders if these mental midgets hated America once Obama was elected saying that the Founders were always wrong and they approved of the Marxism that the Magic Negro brought. Oddly, they know the press lies to them, but if CNN says "Hey, the Pope's all for gay marriage" they'll respond, "See! I knew it. Whore of Babylon!*&^%!!"

What a bunch of gullible morons.

It is fair to assert that “is the Pope Catholic?” is no longer merely a rhetorical question.

And that assertion is with the utmost respect for the historic (especially pre 1054 schism) Church.

Do you think the Apostle Paul was out of line to criticize the Apostle Peter ? Did Peter remove Paul from his duties?

Do you deny the bishop of Rome has the authority to change what the church of Rome is allowed to do ?
