The NYPD’s controversial practice of raiding Big Apple nightspots is being put to bed, city officials said Thursday — following years of complaints from local businesses.

A new policy, announced by Mayor Eric Adams on Thursday, would replace the Giuliani-era MARCH initiative — or Multi-Agency Response to Community Hotspots — that led to cops storming into bars and clubs for surprise inspections during business hours.

“Today, we are changing the way we engage with nightlife establishments by opening direct lines of communication with local businesses and giving them a chance to correct issues before enforcement takes place,” Adams said

Such a visit might have saved many lives at the Coconut Grove.

It’s probably racisis or homophonic to bust up illegal establishments performing illegal activity like drug sales and child trafficking.

An old retired NYC detective showed me a Boy Scout pocket knife that someone had used to shoot at him with during a nightclub raid.

The pocket knife held a single 22 caliber bullet, the story was that Capone had about 6 made as gifts for his loyal boys.

Hey Guido, we hear there may be some rodents in your cellar.

OK, did my envelope not make it in?

Oh, is this Guido from the Copa or Guido from the Cosmic.

Guido from the Copa.

Sorry to have bothered you, the raid is set for the other Guido, the one who forgot to pay up.

Good find, the one this guy had was similar to an old Boy Scout knife.

I believe the one I found is a huntsman’s knife.

With probable cause, raid away! If your undercovers are able to buy drugs, see illegal gambling in the back room, find underaged drinkers in abundance or the bartenders are pimping on the side, raid ‘em. If not, leave ‘em be.

This will be great for the NYPD, known for their incredible honesty since Tammany Hall.

The income for NYPD "officers" just increased significantly.

Absolute idiocy. Let’s ask Bernard Kerik and Rud Giuliani what they think.

From the article:
Other city agencies that have previously participated in MARCH will now also follow the new guidelines, including the Fire Department and Department of Buildings, but all agencies will still perform real-time inspections to address any immediate public safety concerns.

To me, these type of inspections are, in the big scheme of things, more critical than looking for other illegal activities. If you can be reasonably sure that people can get more quickly out of a space or room if there is a fire or a shooting or anything other situation where panic and overcrowding will cause the deaths of innocents, you've saved lives.

I’ve got no problem with this. Why raid a place with a squadron of armed cops if you can simply call the owners/operators and ask them to cure any violations? If they don’t fix them, you can always just lock the doors in the wee hours (NY Bars can be open as late as 4 am) without having to harangue the patrons.
