Twice-convicted murderer Walter Joseph Lewis was set to be released on parole under the California Elderly Parole Law, according to local news.
Lewis, now 76, first stabbed a man to death in 1965, when he was 18 years old and was sentenced to 13 years in prison for the crime. He later killed Robert Chartier in 1979 by beating him to death with a hammer, according to FOX 11 Los Angeles.
The Chartier family has been petitioning the California Board of Parole Hearings to reconsider Lewis' release since 2017. "On March 14th, 1979 within 6 months of release he killed Robert Chartier (my uncle) by repeatedly hitting him over the head with a hammer because he was jealous of my aunt who he'd know in high school. My uncle died 6 days later," Chartier's nephew, Jason Brock, wrote in a 2017 letter posted to Change.org.

A 76-year-old man can still be strong. Or carry a pipe, knife, or even a gun. Besides, shouldn’t two murders merit life imprisonment? What do you have to do to get life in California?

Life imprisonment isn’t about keeping you in prison until you are (in the eyes of the state) “too old to be a danger”.
Life imprisonment is about keeping you in prison for the rest of your life on Earth, as a consequence of YOU choosing to commit the crime you have been convicted of committing.
The liberal left scam was to eliminate the death penalty so they can manipulate the sentencing and eventually let these murderers go free some day
IMHO the family should not be making any noise about this at all especially if they feel justice will not be served with the release. Should the parole be granted there are other ways for get justice such as employing a service that would arrange for a fatal ‘accident’.
This problem wouldn’t happen if all convicted murderers were executed. Just saying....
That would be my solution.

What I want to know is what has this bum been doing all these years? Has he been working hard to earn his upkeep? If not, why not? NO PRISONERS should be sitting on their asses while in prison. Work or Starve!
