Mike Johnson is not a passive wimp.

Watch what Mike does bring to the floor.

I have been adamantly opposed to U.S. aid for Israel for years, but I was OK with Johnson putting that bill on the floor for a vote.

It was designed to be a political tool against Biden — by forcing him to piss off one or the other major Democratic constituent group (Jews or radical pro-Hamas leftists).

The day that The Hill banned comments is the day I stopped clicking on The Hill. The more that people click on The Hill the more add revenues they can charge.

Why doesn’t the speaker change the name of the house foreign relations committee chair?

Not sure what this guy is saying. Speaker can keep the bill off the floor indefinitely.

Right. Open Border is policy.

Billions for other countries is fungible deficit spending to enrich cronies and dive the U.S. into financial ruin a lá Cloward Liven. General spending.

But pulling in thousands and thousands of illegal immigrants per day is a hard and fast official (if unadmitted) Brandon Administration policy that Johnson will never be permitted to interrupt or even slow down.

Such bullshit. All spending bills must originate in the House.

McCaul is blowing smoke.

There won’t be 218 votes for a Discharge Petition.

The votes just aren’t there. McCaul hopes to bully Johnson into putting it on the floor himself.

It’s axiomatic.

Cost of F-16’s varies depending on exactly which variant and upgrades the recipient gets, but, an average figure is $25 million. That usually comes with some support.

$10 billion would be 400 F-16’s. That many can be spared, if allies’ contributions are included.
Figure another $10 billion for munitions, which we have in spades.

If Pooty wins, it will be because we have an Administration with no gonads.

Is it right that a Speaker can block a bill from being voted on, which bill is supported by a majority of House members?

It seems to me that tactic / power is wrong, regardless of which side employs it.

For one thing, you are asking a dishonest question. The issue of Israel and Ukraine is not some problem they have with illegal immigration from an otherwise friendly (mostly) country. For them it is literally their survival, and with huge negative strategic and economic fallout to the rest of the Western & allies world, to boot.

#2 As has been noted, the biggest problem with the border is Biden's border policy(s). Congress "could" tackle part of that, but even if Congress was united on the general policy direction, it would take them literally years to hammer out the specific details in the legislation. That's what an Administration has hordes of people employed to work on: All the specific rules, regs, and so on. That legislation is even tougher to knock out when the legislators know the Administration will try to subvert it.

Possibly the best bet would be to pass legislation addressing a couple specific Biden policies, which legislation Biden is sure to veto (and likely dies in the Senate anyway), and use that in the fall campaign.

#3, there's a critical election to win, and to be honest, the Pubbies and Trump need the border issue as a strong second behind the economy, to do well. I kinda hate to say it, but "never let a crisis go to waste." In this case, the last thing we want is some squishy compromise bill to somehow get through, and then the Dems can crow about their wonderful bipartisan legislation to finally fix the border - "damn that Trump for ruining the border, but we've fixed it" - and other such BS.

OTOH, without aid soon, Israel and Ukraine are going to be in big trouble. The Ukraine situation is obvious - they need ammo and they need more than popgun weapons, even if they have made great use of what they've received so far. Israel's economy is getting hammered - a detail isolationists conveniently forget. Plus, If Iran thinks Israel is vulnerable, they will tell Hezbollah to attack in earnest. 120k rockets? 150k rockets? Most likely, we would HAVE to intervene unless we want to see a battered Israel resort to firing off, say, 1/4 of its nukes, and God knows where that would lead. China... Needs an immediate reminder we can help our Asian allies make Chinese aggression very, VERY costly. In none of those overseas areas can we wait around, because if our enemies make a move, it will be before Biden (hopefully) gets the boot.
