The background checks do not include certain types of people. Go lookup the military “extremist” training from the current adminstration.

When I joined up, I had to affirm that I was not, nor had ever been, a member of the Communist Party or any other organization that advocated for the violent overthrow of the United States Government. They scrapped that long ago when they dumped the “no homos” requirement (despite a mountain of evidence that so called homosexuals are way more prone to suffer from mental illness), but they still have the oath that every servicemember takes in some form to defend the Constitution. Apparently that has been rendered meaningless. Why this turd wasn’t flushed during his SBI I will never know.

I was interviewed for the clearance of a fellow office worker. The worker was a very competent software guy. But he was a member of a religious cult that held extreme views on so many subjects that none of us would talk to this guy unless we had to. The cult made ordinary conspiracy theorists seem sane. I did warn the interviewer about the cult. I was ignored and the coworker got the clearance. I don’t know if anything bad ever transpired but I felt the possibility was much higher with him than with any other random software guy.
As Richard Pryor said in one of his comedy routines...”Hey buddy, you got a light?”
