Outrage in Houston After Police Audit Reveals 260,000 Crimes Not Investigated

Politicians and law enforcement figures in Houston are dealing with the massive blowback after an audit revealed that for at least eight years, authorities had “suspended” and not investigated more than 260,000 criminal cases. Officials say a lack of manpower led to the suspension of about 10 percent of the crimes reported. The revelations led to various groups calling for the firing of Houston Police Chief Troy Finner.

The issue first began earlier this month when information from an internal audit revealed that thousands of sexual assault cases had been suspended from investigations and simply filed as not enough manpower.

Last week, Finner held a news conference where he announced the result of an audit that revealed that since 2016, there had been 4,017 sexual assault cases that his department had failed to investigate. In the aftermath of that initial revelation, Finner claimed to have assigned 32 investigators to the sexual crimes division as they work to reopen those cases.

A black employee where I worked was murdered. Turns out it was by two other blacks. The family hit the race button instantly and it looked like the event had the possibility of going viral. The cops went to the cell phone companies and found out what cell phone were in his house at the time and had suspects arrested about two hours after they started the investigation. They could probably do that for just about every crime in the city, but they don’t. My impression is they only solve crimes when the solution drops on their head. But somebody hits the race button and they’re johnny on the spot with a resolution.

The purpose of the police, for the most part, is to collect data and write reports.

I have many, many dark stories of the Houston police from the 1960s/70s.

"... an audit revealed that for at least eight years, authorities had “suspended” and not investigated more than 260,000 criminal cases."

That's no surprise, since the Houston kakistocrats hired Art Acevedo as Houston Police Chief from November 30, 2016 to April 4, 2021. That guy has left a pile of administrative excrement everywhere he went. Recently the People's Socialist Kakistocracy of Austin's Interim City Manager Jesús Garza tried to create a new executive position for Acevedo. Even the woketardian leftist City Council objected so much that Acevedo had to turn it down. Austin still has an Interim Chief of Police. What competent person would want the job?!?

No. But Mayor Sylvester Turner served eight years as Houston’s mayor, 2015 to 2023….. interesting coincidence isn’t it?

The purpose of the police, for the most part, is to collect data and write reports.

And write traffic tickets to raise revenue. The ONLY purpose of police is to fund the government. They have no duty whatsoever to protect you or your property. In many jurisdictions, the only way to get the police to do anything is to actually have the nerve to actually attempt to protect yourself, or your property.

About Hizonner...

“Notably, he played a key role in establishing the first Latino state senate district in Harris County and has been a staunch advocate for expanding access to early voting in person and Election Day polling locations in African American and Latino communities. His commitment to LGBTQ+ rights earned him the Harvey Milk Award in 1993 for his efforts against the decriminalization of the Sodomy Law. Whitmire has also been a vocal champion of women’s rights, backed by a 100% voting record. He has worked tirelessly to preserve the DREAM Act, ensuring undocumented young individuals can access in-state tuition rates. “

They got what they wanted.

Police needs political support. NYPD had that from Rudy (and Bloomberg). That’s why you saw them clean up NYC.

The way the democrats can claim crime is going down is because they just ignore it. If they investigate crime it will be reported

Most crimes don’t get investigated. I had stuff stolen, called the cops, they sent a form so I could give them serial numbers and if any of the pawn shops that actually follow the law reported having bought that stuff I’d get it back and maybe, MAYBE, the cops would call the guy that sold the stuff to the pawn shop.

Your tax dollars at rest.

Interesting how the amount of work paid for by the government that people actually want decreases while government spending always increases.

My experience is that this is likely not unique to Houston.

Cops only take action to protect themselves (personally, their families & friends, or pension) and their governments (organizations and politicians).

Other actions are basically taken on accident (walking into an armed robbery or witnessing a crime).

Wasn’t Houston the city where about five policemen were ambushed at one time? If so then they understandably may have a recruitment challenge.

....and the liberal/Biden claim is that crime is down going by the statistics. However, in Houston alone there was 260,000 crimes no investigated.

I just saw two minutes of that execrable moron Lester Holt. They put up the words: Crimes lower in states that have more undocumented immigrants.

Probably with doctored figures but by that measure we should beg for more illegals to solve our states’ crime problems. Despite stories of countries now opening prisons and sending the aliens to the US southern border. And Trump said mental hospitals are sending them as well.
