Fox News is amplifying a racist conspiracy on the Francis Scott Key Bridge collapse. Because of course it is.
At about 1:40 a.m. EST on Tuesday, a 1,000-foot cargo ship careened past large concrete obstacles ahead of Baltimore’s Francis Scott Key Bridge, colliding with one of its structural pillars and toppling it into the Patapsco River. Mere hours later, conservatives were already hurling their racist conspiracy theories against the wall to see what sticks.
In an early morning broadcast, Fox Business attempted to tie the horrific situation—which was deemed a developing mass casualty event by the Baltimore City Fire Department—to the “wide-open border.” Via a clumsily worded, cross-wired question, Fox Business host Maria Bartiromo connected the catastrophic collapse to President Joe Biden’s immigration policy.

At what point in our lives did critical thinking cross the Rubicon?
Before all the information is in, this could be anything.
It could be a terrorist attack.

It could be incompetence. (incompetence could run the gamut from a incompetent pilot to incompetent damage control, failure to train correctly for emergencies, failure to keep up to date on inspections or gun decking those inspections)

I have studied accidents and mishaps of various kinds in my adult life, and human error always is near the top.
Always. We try to fix things on the fly, but we are fallible, and in many cases, just as likely to enable a mishap rather than avoid it.

Looked like the ship was smoking along, lost rudder control and veered into a main pylon before it could stop.
So far, I’m going with something wrong mechanically or with maintenance on the ship.
Same ship had a crash in 2016.
Yes, it’s early on. I rad that “harbor pilots” were at the helm who were more familiar with that stretch of river.
But why were the lights blinking on and off?
Was the rudder stuck and the ship blinking lights and sounding the horn to warn those on the bridge. Was the smoke from throwing the prop(s) in reverse, and powering up full throttle?
That was what... about 100,000 tons of momentum to try to stop and reverse?
Personally, I blame climate change for the bridge collapse
And Trump, of course.
