What used to be her spot to catch some fresh air has become anything but for Bee Bletsian in the building she’s called home for 13 years.

Just south of downtown Minneapolis, behind an old brick building on the corner of 5th Avenue South and East 24th street, on a city-owned lot, it’s easy to see why.

A friend had a very successful bed and breakfast business a block off the beach in Panama City, Florida. A neighbor allowed his yard to be used by the homeless. There were often passed out people visible from his business. One day during the pandemic, a woman was lying unconscious on his doorstep. The 911 operator said it wasn’t safe to come get the person, so they wanted him to verify she was alive and possibly do some CPR. He said, no way. They finally came and got her. Then, the police showed up at the door and asked to see the footage from his security cameras. Someone had tried to get into their place, but it was locked. He continued down the street, found two men working in a garage, murdered them both and then made his way back to the homeless encampment. Still, the police would not shut down the encampment. He managed to sell his business, which subsequently shut down as the word got out about the homeless problem.
