They could figure it out in just one year, if Buttgigger didn’t have to take off half of every day to ‘chest feed’ ‘his’ baby.

There are many people that believe the ship’s electronics were hacked. If it was or not I don’t know. However, it should be looked into.
“I would start by interviewing the ship’s crew; then I would try to determine if what they said is true.”
You might want to copyright that before some rapper makes a hit record out of it.
The flip side of the record could be the standard bureaucrat response:
“We have a preliminary indication;
But there’s an ongoing investigation.
So we won’t comment on the situation
Until we have further information.”
They often take a long time.
My guess is someone ordered or the deck guys dropped the stbd anchor and turned the boat heading down river at 8 kts with 0.8 kt current with no power and the rudder midships and the anchor drug the bottom and turned the ship. from the videos the ship w/o power heading straight down the channel most likely would keep going straight (inertia). unless another force intervenes. anchors can do that. if the orders came from the pilot that would be an issue for the union pilots assoc. Pilots kind a work for the governments.
Not surprised. If the NTSB is of the caliber as Mrs. Pete Buttguy, I would expect years longer before they even show up.

Did you notice how quickly Biden was on TV to talk about this? I think they’re going to try to get as much money out of the federal government as they can out of this. It’s almost like he’s gonna get a cut of it isn’t it? I know it’s conspiracy theory thought Why don’t they take some money out of this big bill that they passed a few years ago for infrastructure ?
I don’t know about that. The control systems on these ships can get quite complex, and apparently the data recording of these systems is not very extensive. The VDR (Voyage Data Recorder, ie., the black box) records far less than the black box in an airplane. I’ve not even been able to ascertain if the VDR records the direction of propulsion.
Haha - I’d just watched that vid a couple hours ago. It’s a VERY interesting vid. It could literally take 20+ years to resolve all the liabilities.
The inefficiencies in our “system” of law and government are incredible.
As an aside, there are also a few very astute comments in the comments about the complexity of the ship’s control systems and things that can go wrong. For example, this ship apparently has 4 electrical generators and an emergency backup generator. If, say, 3 generators are running and one goes a little out of phase, that can crash the whole system.
That is a ridiculously low estimate of the massive procrastination & funding theft of billions of dollars of taxpayers' money that we are about to witness......
I’m betting that "two years" will be close to the time that the INITIAL 60 billion dollars has been thoroughly distributed to all corrupt communist entities in the U.S. and the call goes out for the taxpayers to raise the ante...
This boondoggle will similar to the Covid boondoggle as an enrichment process for communist politicians and groups, as well as another big lever to impose even more tyrannical controls on the peasants...
