Two days after being sworn into the Thurston County Sheriff's Office (TCSO), Christopher Burbank resigned from the position.
The TCSO on Wednesday said the former Tacoma Police Department officer came to the decision "based on community response and death threats made" to his family.
Burbank was one of three Tacoma police officers cleared of criminal charges in the 2020 death of Manuel "Manny" Ellis, a Black man who was shocked, beaten and restrained facedown on a sidewalk as he pleaded for breath.

Don't call for help, no one is left to respond.
One of the first things you are taught in paramedic school is... ask a question of them, any question...
If they can speak, they can breathe....
If he was pleading with the officers to breathe, he was breathing.
[[If they can speak, they can breathe....]]
Beo4ge floyd was speaking very c,early and distinctly right up until the overdose from the many drugs in his system knocked him out. Back when it happened, I tried cutting off my windpipe and tried to speak- I could get out some words, but they were very distorted sou ding, and you could tell that something was restricting my voice- NONE of that happened in the f.oyd case- he spoke incessantly right up to the point he passed out, and even then video showed him taking breaths for awhile until the drugs did him in.
Had the knee been on his neck, shutting off his airway to the point of being dangerous, there is no way that he would have been able to speak. Video showed the knees, the whole time, on his back, never on his neck
Even if the weight on his back crushed his lungs and prevented him from breathing like the left claim, there is no way he could have spoken so clearly and distinctly
Well that headline doesn’t really represent the article. It is clear he was told to resign to avoid being fired, because half the artcle is the sheriff groveling to The race baiters. I hope anyone looking for a job at that department sees how officers are thrown aside.
Lethal amount of drugs in system, preexisting heart condition and resisting arrest? It’s a familiar story. Just missing the golden casket....
In a rational world that would be true. But jurors and others in the shallow end of the IQ pool may feel differently.
“If he was pleading with the officers to breathe, he was breathing.”
It’s the first thing they start saying now when the cops take them down.
‘I can’t breath’
‘I need medical attention’
‘I need water’
‘I didn’t do nothin’
‘why ya’ll aresstin’ me?’
‘give me my phone’.
One thing that really POed me during the “trial” is the defense never pointed to how distinct the size of both individuals. Floyd’s size was much the larger.
I live in this county. This sheriff defeated an establishment candidate, and up to this point seems to have been doing a decent job.
But this, I have to agree, is idiotic.
“as he pleaded for breath.”
If he was pleading, he was breathing.

Sorry he went through what he did. But I can’t help wishing that he would have at least made them fire him after his victory, as leftists commonly do when they overcome us. Or that a Republican moneybags was there to pay him to stick around for a while.
Yep, me too. The defense thou did what I thought was an excellent showing video and proving that Chauvin’s knee was never on Floyd’s neck, a d exp, aimed that it was standard procedure for subduing a vio.ent criminal who was fighting the police, and that Chauvin did exactly the right thing by leaving him in the position he was in incase he started to throw up.
THe left have blood on their hands for everything that Tra spired after the faux trial/verdict which was heavily inf, uenced by prejudice and loathing of police.
