Director Says Wyoming Game And Fish Not Hiding Anything In Wolf Torment Case
Cowboy State Daily ^ | 4/8/24 | Mark Heinz

Some of the firestorm of public outrage over a Sublette County man allegedly capturing and tormenting a wolf before killing it has been directed at the Wyoming Game and Fish Department, but the agency is in a delicate position, Director Brian Nesvik said.

There has been a perception that the agency was too lenient with the man accused and has deliberately withheld information about the incident, Nesvik told Cowboy State Daily early Monday.

But that’s not the case, he said.

A wolf is a dangerous preditor. It torments and kills wildlife. A wolf is not a puppy dog.

I saw those photos of the wolf with its mouth duct-taped shut and I thought they were horrible. That creep who did it deservers everything that’s coming to him.

What is the big deal? Fish and Wildlife fined the guy $250. I did not see he was tormenting the wolf, merely kept it alive which he really should not have done. Why the commotion?

I agree he should not have kept the wolf alive. He was fined, and rightly so. Stronger law needed on the books? Maybe.

You don’t do that period. I have no sympathy for anyone who would torment an animal. I hope the man goes to jail.

A wolf is a dangerous preditor. It torments and kills wildlife.

I couldn't agree more. However, a predator or any other hunted animal should be afforded the decency of a humane kill, not captured then displayed and ultimately killed.

A man ran the wolf down with a snowmobile Feb. 29, disabling it, then taped its mouth shut and kept it alive for a time, at one point showing it off to bar patrons in Daniel, a tiny town in Sublette County.

Then ultimately killing it.

One of the commonalities found in the histories of many mass murderers and sociopathic torture killers is that they also (usually as children) tortured animals.

Show me someone who inflicts pain on a helpless (and that wolf was, after capture) animal and I’ll show you a sick person who needs to be watched closely. All of us have hunted, even if only with a BB gun; and some of us have killed things we hated, such as raccoons who tore up chickens or pets, but anything other than a quick, clean kill should be reserved for Hamas or domestic terrorists, not an animal just doing what it is evolved/created to do.

A wolf is a creature that does what God created it to do. It does it without thought or malice. The man who did this, on the other hand, is a worthless piece of shit who apparently gets off on torturing animals.

The wolf is shopping for dinner doing what we all do, fulfilling the need for subsistence to survive. So, I would not classify what the wolf is doing as falling under the heading of torture. Obviously the prey for the day is not happy he was selected, but the prey, if not a vegetarian, is reliant upon prey also.

I have no problem with someone protecting their livestock or self-preservation, but they do not need to engage in torture, if indeed he did so.

Cody Roberts deserves any and all jail time, loss of hunting privileges, and a massive fine for his torment and torture of a wolf. Ran the wolf down, injured it, captured it, tormented and tortured it, failed to get it treatment, instead eventually killed it. I can’t think of a worse example of a drunk idiot that belongs shamed and in jail.

You live by the sword, you die by the sword. I shed no tears for an animal that feasts on prey intestines ripped out of the animals anus while still alive.

I shed even fewer tears when that animal was forced on the man and the state by an out of control and oppressive government.

A wolf is also wildlife-animals are not humans-they are not capable of a complicated thought process such as tormenting other animals, deliberate evil, etc-neither is a “puppy dog” for that matter-a canine is a canine-but a dog is a domestic/pet animal, where a wolf is wildlife.

If you read the article, it tells you that there are 3 areas with different rules regarding wolves. In one, there are aparentely enough of them to hunt without a license-fine-but apparently there-as here-hunting does not include injuring/disabling, capture and parading the live and tortured animal as a trophy before killing it-which was what this excuse of a human being was supposed to be doing in the first place-he was supposedly hunting-not looking for something to torture or brag to his friends about at a bar-that is animal cruelty in this state-don’t know about any other-you don’t torture a domestic meat animal before you dispatch it-so show the same consideration to wildlife. I’ve been hunting since I was about 10 years old-and if I’d ever tortured an animal-any animal-like that instead of dispatching it humanely, my dad would have beat my ass, as well as taking away my gun and restricted me from hunting anything at all for at least the rest of the season.

Somebody needs to do that to this excuse of a human-maybe give him a tune up, tape up his mouth with duct tape and parade him around with a rope around his neck at a bar for a few hours...

I shed no tears

I will shed no tears for this man if he is convicted and sentenced to jail time for his inhumane treatment of an animal regardless of it's hierarchy on the predatory scale.......

Predatory animals hunt for survival, man now hunts for sport.

Thank you, and I agree-at least some of us see reason and know animals are not capable of good/evil intentions. i do not think the predator haters here spend much time in the wild, or actually go hunting, since they do not get how the natural world operates...
