Graphic bodycam footage released Tuesday revealed the chaos that unfolded when plainclothes Chicago cops fired nearly 100 gunshots during a traffic stop last month, killing one young man and leaving another injured.
Dexter Reed, 26, was killed during a March 21 traffic stop in Humboldt Park after officers in an unmarked cop car pulled him over for allegedly failing to wear a seatbelt.
The chaotic footage shows Reed rolling down the window of his SUV and then raising it before refusing to exit his vehicle as five officers scream commands and draw their weapons.
Preliminary evidence showed Reed had fired first at one officer during the shootout on West Ferdinand Street. Four other officers returned fire, the Civilian Office of Police Accountability said in a statement.
“Available preliminary evidence also confirms that officers returned fire approximately 96 times over a period of 41 seconds, including after Mr. Reed exited his vehicle and fell to the ground,” COPA said.

The video that I saw showed the ‘plain clothes’ LEOS with POLICE on the back of their jackets. Nothing on the front of the casual looking blue jackets.
They were pretty ‘plain’ looking, some with beards, I thinks.
So a black guy has 5 guys, with at least some white ones with guns and no police id showing, yelling get of the car, ... in Chicago.
I am not surprised that he felt he had to defend himself.

It is obvious this was a known bad guy. This was not a uniformed beat cop who happened to see a guy without a belt.

He was pulled over by plainclothes cops in an unmarked car, and I didn’t hear them identify themselves as police officers. I imagine he was scared, maybe thinking it was a car-jacking or worse. What would you do if 5 people got you to pull over and then they all pulled guns on you?
True. And if they are making a traffic stop they are to go over the air and ask for a marked car to respond and assist. Who knows what the circumstances were, as it hasn’t been disclosed if they requested one or didn’t have time. But they probably weren’t out there just for the sole purpose of doing traffic enforcement, they were using the seatbelt violation as probable cause to stop him.
I would say the criminal knew he was getting pulled over by police, and not some other rival gang member, he probably had crossed paths with these officers before. These officers know the players in the area too, and most likely they were familiar with him. The criminal had a pending gun case from last year. The area this shooting took place is a very high crime area on the west side of the city. That criminal knew exactly what was up, and didn’t want a second gun case.

First 3 shots seemed muffled a little, but I cannot tell from the stories nor from the Daily Mail UK video, where those 3 shots originated. I cannot tell if the 3 shots originated from somebody else within the vehicle, or from the driver's side. I did not see any indication of shots exiting the video.
Originally, the driver had the driver side window all the way down, but as the female Chicago police officer approached near to the vehicle, the driver side window was raised half-way up.
Somehow, the soon-to-be-deceased party, exited the vehicle and proceeded to the rear of the vehicle.
Seems to me, that was when a generally second fusilage/hail of bullets were fired toward him/vehicle.
The exiting party fell to the ground at the rear of the vehicle, apparently with a firearm in his right hand . . . and the bulk of his torso landing face down and covering his hand and the firearm.
He was alive when police gathered closer to him, but unable to respond and reveal the firearm.
At 2:33 in the Daily Mail UK video, a police officer is on the ground, and his left wrist is apparently damaged.
At 2:50 in the video, another police officer has a wound or blood spatter to his left upper, inside thigh and a more direct wound to his right upper thigh - he exclaims, "Fu__!" as his comrades help him to lay down.

I read (maybe FR) yesterday-ish that Room Temperature Guy was on pre-trial release for some serious crime. A bunch of plainsclothes jumpout guys aren’t gonna yank some random nobody for no seatbelt.

Yes, I’ve since seen that and read several articles about this today. The guy, a security guard, was approached by one and as many as five civilian-dress males brandishing guns and yelling at him. All for a seat-belt violation?!
