When I think “jury of my peers” I think of people who are like me, in culture and in occupation class. New York City is full of people with high net worth, who deal in real estate, and have comparable ethnic backgrounds. What I haven’t heard is that the people pulled in even come close in ANY of the criteria.
You are right, of course. However, the spirit and letter of our Constitution is being bastardized or ignored to mean whatever the powers that be decide.
Sixth Amendment - "In all criminal prosecutions, the accused shall enjoy the right to a speedy and public trial, by an impartial jury of the State and district wherein the crime shall have been committed..."
There is no way that a MAGA American can get a fair trial in a blue city because it would be nearly impossible to meet the jury requirement of the 6th amendment.
There was a time when we would mock and scorn the NAZI and Communist (Stalin) show trials. History can now add the U.S. to the list of show trial nations. God help us!
I don’t think that would be a good idea either. Would be like inbred landed nobility never having to be accountable to anyone but themselves.
